I'm quite pleased that the onboard flash for the 20D is actually useful, gotta love ETTL-II! I should have quite a few onboard flash shots with my 20D this weekend that I plan to post since it is going to rain all weekend. I still am going to get the 580EX, the 420EX is nice, but I always kicked myself for not going for the 550EX. I didn't read up on ETTL-II before I got the 20D, but I can really see the difference, and I haven't used my 420EX being that the onboard flash has been that good for indoor shots. Anyone else feel the same?

I got my 20D today but haven't had time to play with it yet. I have a 550 EX, but I smashed it a fortnight ago. :(
So it's the 420 EX and the inbuilt flash for me until my shiny new 580 EX arrives or my 550 is repaired.

Morden, when you fire off some shots with the 20D be sure to use the onboard flash, you will be amazed what ETTL-II does!

I'll be sure to try it! What impresses you so much about the results?

I found that the direct flash on my DRebel was useless, even when dialing down FEC even to -1, the results were the usual harsh results as expected from onboard camera flash with washed out flat looking shots. Seeing is believing, nice to know that the onboard flash can be enough for certain situations that lugging an external one isn't practical...The results from the onboard flash with the 20D and ETTL-II is very close to the results I would get from using my 420EX bounced believe it or not!

I actually got some good use out of the 10D's built in falsh I have to admit.. once I started using FEC..
With the 20D and it's higher flash and ETTL2 it's better still :)

Indeed, the few shots I've taken so far using the 20D's built in flash do look quite nice. :)
