In November I am photographing a wedding in Las Vegas, then going onto Yosemite for a few days. I will be spending a few days in San Francisco prior to to the wedding, so I may indulge in a little retail therapy (credit cards are much more fun when you are not in “rip off” Britain).
Is there a west coast equivalent of B&H in the San Francisco area?

There's 'Discount Camera' located on Kearny Street just off Market Street, their prices are a fair bit higher than B&H & I'd say not much better than the UK, still worth a look though. http://www.discountcamera.com
Walk a bit further up Kearny St. as I remember seeing another decent looking camera shop up a couple of blocks?
I'd also recommend a visit to 'Calumet' which is located at 18th & Bryant....

Many thanks Paul,
This board is just so cosmopolitan, you ask a question about San Francisco and you get an answer from Guernsey
Thanks again

Years ago, there was once a store called Denevi Camera (not sure of the spelling). They were a large operation with a large professional department, and were the camera store in the Bay Area. They've since been 'absorbed' by Wolf/Ritz, and are no longer around. There is a large camera store in Palo Alto, Keeble & Schuchatt, and it's one of my regular stops on our frequent trips to the area. They have a lot of inventory, but their prices are not that great. To be precise, they have two stores across the street from each other. One is for film, and the other is digital only. They have a fair amount of pro gear in both locations. I have successfully 'negotiated' with them in the past, although it isn't necessarily something they're fond of doing.
