Well, its a De Havilland DHC-2 Beaver and its not all that big.
Its on a take off run across Pittwater near Palm Beach in NSW.

By the way your Beaver is Serial No. 1557 of 1,692 originally constructed at the de Havilland plant at Downsview (Toronto) Canada.

Its in regular use here between Rose Bay and Pittwater (for those curious, the flickr photo is georeferenced).
According to an old post I found on the Sydney Airport Message (http://www.vpmag.com/yssy/viewtopic.php?t=13075&view=next&sid=6b53414b9d1d27172b40d63ca9eb8f30) board it was involved in the Superman movie.
