Sigma 28 - 135mm lense advice

Have been looking at a couple of 2nd hand lenses.

Is there any code or marks that I could ask the seller about to ensure that is is compatible with my EOS 300D/Rebel?

Any EF (Eos) mount should work. As it's a DR, you can also use the Canon EF-S lenses (of which only the 18-55 is readily available right now). It's possible, however, that older 3rd-party lenses won't function fully correctly. I've mostly heard of this in connection with zooms, and it's really only a problem with significantly-older (3 or more years) lenses, depending on how well they've reverse-engineered the Canon lens electronics. Sigma has a re-chipping program (but you have to ask for it) for some of their middle-aged lenses.
