...at least that's what I'll tell my wife!
He asks a question about the 300mm f/4, and then I happen to see an ad at my local camera store for a used 300 f/4 IS for $750, and I got to thinking about it, even though I don't need one, then I call the camera store, then I go and look at it and it's in great shape, and then the gal there says if I don't get it I'll regret it, and I find myself agreeing with her, then somehow she had my credit card and I walked out with a lens.
Come to think about it, drisley just asked a question, and my impulsiveness took it from there.
I've never used a lens with IS. I really like it.
Here's the requisite duck shot at 1/160 sec at f/11 handheld:

and here's a 100% crop:

Now I'm going back Monday to look at a used Canon 1.4x converter...

Hey, I dont mind being the one blamed by the wife, just as long as you live FAR from here!
Actually, I'm a walking/talking ad for the 135F2L, so I thought maybe that is what you bought.
That is an excellent price, and a really nice picture. Very sharp indeed.

Really Chuck? Hmmm... you got me thinking again...
In a way, I just got one. I found a used Canon 1.4x teleconverter yesterday.
Doesn't that make the 300 f/4 a psudo 420 f/5.6 with IS (thought not as sharp)?
I gotta go find me a canard...
