I am somewhat of a noobie and had posted several questions concerning my next lens. At first I was going to get the 70-128mm (not sure if that is correct), then some of you persuaded me to save and get the 70-200mm f/4 L. Granted this lens is a little less then what I got my Drebel for, so I was a bit nervous. All I can say is WOW, this thing is awesome and quality of pics are excellent. The construction is wonderful, seems to be very well made. So as of now I can handle anywhere from the 18-200mm, of course given the 18-55mm kit lens. I was surprised on the weight difference, but not too much, it makes sense.
Anyways, thanks again!

May you have much joy with it, Hank. The EF 70-200mm f/4L is a gem amongst lenses and should last you for many years.

I got my 2.8 version earlier in the week, but it was the same day I had to pack up my 300d..I was only able to fire off a few pics, but they were awesome. Now I have to wait til monday til my 10d comes...

Thanks again. One of the most interesting things, from a cost angle, would be that the lens, for that matter most Canon lens, don't depreciate that much. People sell the 70-200mm f/4 lens used on eBay all the time for around 500 bucks or so. So from an investment perspective you really can't go wrong. Unless of course you trash the lens, which wouldn't be good :?

Hogzilla,
I am not sure of the Tamron, but I can definitely tell you the construction and pictures I am getting out of this Canon 70-200mm are impressive. Think longterm, Canon is the choice I would pick. I am just a little biased since I just picked one up

hogzilla , you're not comparing apples with apples here so the "which one should I buy" question is impossible to answer. One is an ultra wide angle zoom and the other a medium telephoto zoom. Only you can decide which focal length you really need.
Whether you want to hear it or not, the answer really is probably "both". You could do with a lens in both those ranges.
