I'm thinking of having my 10D as a 2nd body & ordering myself a 20D. Trouble is when I want something I want it asap! I see B&H (whom I usually use) are saying out of stock so I had a quick look around for elsewhere to order in the USA. I see Amazon has it in stock, has anyone had experience with Amazon? If any of you guys can recommend anywhere else I'd be grateful.
Also I have the battery grip for my 10D, I take it that this won't fit the new 20D? If so can I use my 10D batteries in the new 20D grip?
Thanks for any help.

I order as many of my things from Amazon as I can because 1) they usually don't charge shipping and 2) their prices are usually better than most other places. However, when ordering from Amazon, you have to be careful that you are ordering from them and not from some other store that just happens to be going through Amazon. You can tell when this is the case because the other vendor's name will be on that little box that has the "Add to cart" button on it and you won't get the free shipping no matter how much the item costs).
However, having said that, all my dealing with Amazon has been "local" so I can't vouch for how the international aspect of Amazon works.
The 20D uses the same type of battery that that 10D uses so your 10D batteries will definitely fit and work in the 20D.

i thought amazon had 3rd party vendors for ALL their camera gear...ever camera part ive ever ordered there came from J&R in the end...and their main supplier is Ritz for the 20d i though...
but i dont know dink...Id rather order from b&h than amazon...

I got my 300D through Amazon, and it wasn't through a 3rd party Amazon supplier. But usually they don't have much high-end gear, that comes from Adorama, Ritz, J&R, etc.

My brother had a MAJOR hassle with Amazon when he ordered his 10D. Usuallt they are okay but he went through hell with his order and ended up buying it locally.
The 20D uses the BG-E2 grip as the camera is a new body and smaller than the D60/10D/Drebel. However, you can use the same batteries. The new batteries are claimed to shoot up to 1,000 frames a charge. The old ones were around 800.

I'm not in the US and every order I made with them went very smoothly. Personally I shop at amazon 1st, if they don't have an item then I'll shop somewhere else.

Best place to shop!
3rd parties?
Amazon IS the RESPONSABLE! for every single item they sell. So, Who cares?
Shop in confidence. You can't go wrong w/ Amazon.
NOTE: I DO NOT WORK for Amazon.

Yes. I bought the 100-400 from amazon (through J&R) and it also went smoothly.

i have ZERO biff with amazon and where they get their gear from...
my ONLY issue in god knows how long/many things I have bought throud amazon...shipping time...sometimes it says 24 hours but it took 2 days to process everything, and sometimes it will have a thing under the item saying if i buy in the next 6 hours it will ship out that night, it never does though...
it happens rarely to me...but it happens, other than that no complaints...
bhphoto has shipped my package out in like 2 hours before, great service, but hell on the phone to talk to...i always get people that dont sound like they know any english...

I have orderd lots of things from Amazon in the past few years and everything has always been fine. I hope this trend continues, because I did place an order with them for the 20D and is supposed to be here within a week. :D

When ordering from Amazon just be sure that you keep all your receipts, especially your return recept if you return something. I went back and fourth with them for 6 months over somthing I had returned and they failed to credit me for. The UPS tracking number on the return was the key to my refund.

How do you know if the camera is really in stock. I just looked and it says it usually ships in 24 hours. I think the operative word is Usually. Is there a way to find out? Also how is their super saver free shipping?

You get what you pay for with the Super Saver shipping. It seems like they'll sit on the order for a couple days with Super Saver (perhaps to group it with other orders?), then ship it UPS Ground. It's fine if you're not in a hurry to get the stuff.

The BG-ED3 won't fit on the 20D because it is slightly smaller than the 10D. The new BG-E2 grip does instead. But the same batteries are used in both cameras. The new BP511A batteries store more charge than the BP511's, but the two types can be used in both caneras. The BG-E2 grip comes with a "rack" that takes AA batteries, which can be useful.

The only thing Amazon "stocks" is books and probably movies. Everything else they coordinate sales and shipping with 3rd party vendors. You'd be better off buying a non-book item from a real camera vendor.
I bought my 300D from newegg.com

If Newegg carried the 20D I would definitly order from them as I order all my computer hardware from them. I even placed a call to Newegg the other day and inquired about them carrying the 20D of which they said not at this time. I did call Amazon and asked about the definition of "usually ships in 24 hours" and they said yes that means its in stock. I went ahead and ordered one and paid for 2 day shipping as the super saver would take too long and they would probably run out by the time it ships. I did however order a sandisk II 1gb card and multi card reader from Newegg for $130.00 including shipping. I feel that was a pretty good deal.
Amazon says expected delivery of said 20D should be on the 22nd. We will see.

Ordered from Amazon yesterday, already being prepared for shipment (the "you cannot change your order" phase...). Expected by sept 22nd... Directly from Amazon, using the two day shipment (couldnt wait until the 28th...).

Actually, that is not true. They do have a lot of third party vendors that they sell through, but it always tells you this when you buy. When I ordered the 20D, it was directly through them. They are the largest online seller in the world, as far as I know. They have a lot of stuff....

Try ONECALL.com. They have good prices, will price match and are good to deal with.

I ordered one from Amazon yesterday too, half expecting them to not actually have it, but I was shocked they actually had it in stock. It has been shipped and I have the tracking number.

Hmmm I went to the Dell site and only saw the 10D with the 10% discount. You must of had a coupon code?

That 10% is great if you live somewhere that sales tax will not be applicable. Unfortunatly I live in the home state of Dell. I ordered from amazon yesterday while the gettin was good and I too am in the shipping stage and expecting it on the 22nd. BTW...it was the kit w/18-55 lens. At the time the body was not available.

How do you get the 10% deal?
I talked with customer care support chat live on Dell and explained to them that I had attempted to place an order Friday Sept. 17 (sometime late Thursday night Dell added the 10% off discount to the 20D and then by 6pm or so Friday night the offer was gone) but something came up and I didn't have time to complete the order. So then when I re logged into my account to place the order the price for the 20D had changed and I then proceeded to say how "cheated, let down I felt by the price reversal" basically I played the sympathy card on 'em and it worked. I have heard that if you call and talk with a Dell sales rep it will be easier to get the discount (I never tried this as their service dept was always closed when I had time to call them).
If I were you I'd either call or use their online chat service and try explaining to them how you had seen the discount on their website on Friday morning and now it's not there and you would like the discount (then play the sympathy card lol). When I first tried to resolve the issue I emailed them and didn't really get anywhere (the guy did offer me a free $75 discount coupon which I could apply to any Dell purchase - I told the guy this wasn't good enough so he then gave me a $90 coupon. Then I used chat and got the guy on their to give me another $59.90 discount in conjunction with the $90 coupon - which now gives me the full 10% off discount).
It's been a **** load of trouble for me to get the discount and it may take Dell weeks to get me my 20D; but hey it did save $150 so I think it was worth it.
My best advise to anyone looking to get the 10% is to be very very persistant. Find a nice/generous Dell sale's rep and explain to the situation and pray for the best.
Good luck!

When I first posted this message I was eagerly anticipating ordering a 20D. However having had a closer look at my bank statements I'm afraid it's now been put on hold. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise? I have a lovely new 10D with a great assortment of lenses & maybe I should concentrate on perfecting my photography skills with this little lot before spending out on maybe unnecessary upgrades?
Thanks anyway for all your replies.

Now there's a thought!
I think we all tend to get a little carried away in the technology race, spending too much time reading/learning new manuals instead of mastering good technique.
