I might have a defective 20D.
Everytime I set my EV to either + or -, it always comes back to 0 when I press the shutter. Is there a reason for this?? Or am I doing something wrong??
Also, there are times when I am not able to change focus points right away using the joystick. I have to half press the shutter and change focus point. I have enabled under custom functions to use the joystick for focus point selection............but I rock.........and nothing..........weird.
Boo..........

Problem solved!!!
I should've read the manual first.
I thought the FEC button was the EV button........so everytime I change it, my EV always reverts back to 0!!!
I didn't know that you have to hit the asterisk sorta thing and change.
So sorry!!!
I feel stupid!!!

I did the EXACT same thing. RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF AN IMPORTANT SHOOT! I had to run grab the manual because I needed to overexpose an image 2/3 and couldn't figure the darned thing out. You saw that you depress the shutter button halfway, and either turn the dial with it depressed or you can let off the button and turn the dial within 4 seconds.
This is a great improvement over the Digital Rebel as you can now set this setting while keeping your eye in the viewfinder. Any time you're focusing your shot you can easily adjust EC with your right thumb. Very nice!

MAN!!! I really though I had this camera figured out. You are absolutely right, this is the proper way to change it!!! This is sooo unlike the REBEL!!!
Thanks for this.........I feel stupid the 2nd time today.........
But, in my defense........
..........no person would know this without reading the manual.......cuz there is no sign in the camera for AV +/-. NONE!!!
I'm relieved cuz now I don't have to return to the store for an exchange.

Isn't it strange that the first thing people think when the camera does something different than they expect is that the camera is defective?
By the way, it works exactly the same on the 10D. The button on top sets the FEC, not the normal exposure compensation.
