I have an old Sunpak auto355AF flash which I have used with my analog EOS camera. Will this work on my EOS400D? Is there any risk of destroying my camera if I try?

according to http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html you should be ok, ymmv though.

If the trigger voltage is safe then it won't hurt your camera, but if it's not an E-TTL compatible flash then it's not compatible with your 400D. It won't work properly in TTL mode.
