Of all the forums I read, the CF card that has had the most problems is the Lexar. Of the dozen or so CF cards I own, my Lexar 512 meg card was the only one that has ever had problems (bad sectors out of the box). I've only seen a few other brands mentioned by people as having any problems.
On the plus side, Lexar has been good about replacing them (mine included) but you shouldn't have to have a card replaced that is brand new. That tells me that their quality controls are not as good as the other brands. My CF card of choice is the Sandisk. I have several 1 gig Sandisk cards, a 1 gig Sandisk Ultra II card and several other brands. I've never had a problem with the Sandisk in a couple of years of using that brand.
I know the Lexar has a good price on their cards and there might be 10 times the number of Lexar cards out there as everyone else, so that's why you hear of more problems with them. But I still buy Sandisk as my first choice.

Hold off on the Lexar 80X till next month. Lexar is replacing the current batch with totally reworked ones under the same name. The new ones may be substantially faster in some cameras. No upgrade is possible once you have the older card.

Got my SanDisk Ultra II 1 GB and tested it the same way as I tested my Lexar and at least with my simple test the Lexar wins only in JPEG large fine - other tests they are equal. Judge for Yourself. I don't think I will get another Lexar, at that price I can get 2 SandDisk Ultra II 1 GB.
I shot 20 seconds continuos in P mode ISO 100. 3 tests, first JPEG small fine, second JPEG Large fine and last RAW.
Lexar 1 GB Prof 80x
Number of Large fine JPEG: 60 (buffer full before 20 seconds)
Time for drive light to go out: 20 sec
Number of Small fine JPEG: 97
Time for drive light to go out: 16
Number of RAW: 20 (buffer full before 20 seconds)
Time for drive light to go out: 16
SanDisk Ultra II 1 GB
Number of Large fine JPEG: 51 (buffer full before 20 seconds)
Time for drive light to go out: 12 sec
Number of Small fine JPEG: 97
Time for drive light to go out: 12
Number of RAW: 20 (buffer full before 20 seconds)
Time for drive light to go out: 10

I received a Lexar Ultra II 2GB card today; works great and is very fast in my 20D. I haven't used it enough to really test it, but I'll be shooting a local rugby game on Sunday and plan to try it - and the 20D - for the first time there. :)

YOu know, I was thinking I should sell my 12x Lexars for a faster CF for when my 20D arrived. Well, after trying it today, I honestly can't imagine it being any faster. I know the benchmarks show a huge increase, but I can review Raw images instantly, and I can shoot a burst of 6 shots, wait a few seconds, shoot another burst of 3 shots, and keep doing that. I really didnt expect so much from the camera and a 12x card.
But, prices are so cheap now, the new faster cards look tempting.
