Well , im afraid C & C might be difficult the whole picture is very dark ,possibly a closer crop might help , like this .oops its a bit on the big side sorry .But i guess you know where im coming from .

It sure does work and yes the background is a tad dark. Also, Woody60, you may notice that the original poster doesn't have "Image Editing OK" turned on so you shouldn't really play with their image.

Ady - I like the shot compostionally, maybe bit more offset to the left of the frame for the subject. The exposure of the bird is good but the background isn't. There are two ways you could have gone, and personally I would have gone the direction you did with a dark background with the snow white bird but you needed to clean up a few areas that are peaking through. To go the other way to bring up the background but not blow the bird can be tough, white birds/dark water suck to shoot but evaluative maybe have been a better metering choice along with (sounds counter intuitive but can work) is some positive EV maybe a 1/3rd of a stop. You wouls have a hot spot or two on the bird but a more even exposure through out the image I think.
