View Full Version : Help with Canon Utilities & Sandisk card reader - I can't get them to communicate!

I am SO frustrated. My Dad has a Mac and he just plugged in his Sandisk reader and put the card in and up popped his EOS Utility screen and allowed him to download. It was literally that simple. He does it every day and I've done it on his system and it's so very easy.

I'm running on a Dell XP and bought what I thought was the same card reader (although mine was from Wal-Mart and his from CompUSA). I've tried it with and without the card reader's drivers installed, and I can't get the EOS Utilities to recognize that the card reader is there. I've gone into the preferences and there is no option to recognize removable storage drives or anything. The EOS Util works fine when I plug in my camera. And, I can view the RAW files that are on the card in the reader by using Digital Photo Pro and selecting the F: drive (that's how the card reader is showing up in My Computer), but the only way to transfer them that way would be to save-as and that's not practical. When I put the card in the reader the window that pops up is that F: drive with a folder containing the images (so we know the card reader is "working").

There has GOT to be something I'm missing here. I called Sandisk and they were no help - they told me to call Canon.

Somebody, please, help me. This can't possibly be this complicated. If it were, no one would ever use card readers, they would just upload directly from camera.

TIA.

Update: I did just now manage to download them with Canon Camera Window (which I didn't even know I had, LOL), so that's progress. Any further tips on how to now get it done with EOS Utilities would be much appreciated.

Canon Camera Window is part of EOS Utilities.

Thanks. I didn't have it on my desktop with the other Canon software, but I did find it in my program files. Is there a way I can make it automatically start up when I put the card in the reader? Like it does when I plug in the camera?
