My camera's in my bag. Just easiest to pick up the whole lot.

If someone calls you and says bring camera now

I'm not moving until I hear what, where, and when.

Then I'll choose the lens.

Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 (since it would already be mounted also)

It should be the 24-105 L but my 16-35 L has got welded to the 5D - da*n addiction to landscape photography!

lots of 24-105's...

I'd go for the 17-50, but I'd agree with other people - if there was an amazing plane flying over, I'd get a telephoto. If it was a birthday party cake blowing out, I'd get a 50 prime.

17-70, it lives on the camera.

I agree with Pete. It would take longer to pick a lens, get the camera out, switch lens if it's not the one on the camera.

If I had to go without choosing, then it would be whatever lens is on when I pulled the camera out. Not knowing what was going to be shot, it wouldn't matter as you can get a good shot with any lens. Although the conditions would dictate the lens if they were known.

I just realised this question will instantly seperate the measurebaters and technical photographers from the rest of the herd.

You leave the question a little to wide open for my tastes.

but

24-70 or 70-200 2.8

As for whatever lens that is on the camera....

I have the MP-E 65mm on the camera now. It's a great and wonderful lens but it sure will take horrible photos of anything much beyond a few inches from the front element

Probably the 70-200 f/2.8 IS since it is almost always mounted on one of my bodies.

24-105, but I have to put on the camera as my bag doesn't hold a body with lens attached.

24-105 (lives on my body anyway)... and my 580EX II on the way out the door!

To go on a walk about, my 70-200. Otherwise it'd be the 85L.
