As three-dimensional beings, we perceive time only as a result of memory. We remember what was as a variable interval from what is now. If we had zero memory, we could not detect time - we would exist only for the moment.
(snip. snipsnipsnip. and snip more!)

Excellent explication, Sir!

The short synopsis: we invented time to keep everything from happening at once. (Joke, guys.)

That's where Einstein used Tensor Calculus to handle the time element. Not intuitive for us, but then ol' Albert was the genius, wasn't he? It was obvious to him.

Tensor Calculus isn't for the faint of heart. But then, neither is the universe.

It is well-known that the classical coherence properties
of an electromagnetic field vary due to propagation [1].
The most well-known example of this is the increase of
the spatial coherence of the radiated field from an incoherent
source upon propagation [2, 3]; other examples
are the Wolf effect, the variation of the spectrum of light
under propagation [4, 5], and the change of polarization
of light under propagation [6].

That's what they say.

not genetically is in genes. It means (in this case) appealing to the past to justify current thoughts/actions in a way that isn't logical.

However, I see by your avatar (which I assume is your real head) that you've had a few genetic difficulties, so I'll stop before I get into ad hominem attacks.

Heh! Not to get too serious, but the way I see it, a genetic fallacy would attack a person on the basis of who he/she is "genetically", as in I'm a white male, therefore I will be, say, a racist or an anti femenist. Ad hoc is more about finding a fault in your behavior and using it as an attack on your argument, so, I say silly things about politics so would know nothing useful about, say, photography.

But I'm a hawk head and you're a ninja -- what do ya make of that?

Stealthy Ninja

"Genetic" isn't the same in philosophy.

Here it means:

"The genetic fallacy is a fallacy of irrelevance where a conclusion is suggested based solely on something or someone's origin rather than its current meaning or context. This overlooks any difference to be found in the present situation, typically transferring the positive or negative esteem from the earlier context."

Which includes but is not exclusive to race or physical genetics.

Ninjas and Hawks are half brothers!

Man, how'd this thread get so intellectual? It's about Lightrules................................. perhaps we're being ironic?! ??? ;)

Ad Hominem is attacking the man (or woman) not the argument.

We are being so off topic here...let's come up with some good fallacies about LightRules and 6.5 fps:)!

How about probability: Because LightRules was likely to find a problem with the 40D, it was inevitable that he would, and the failure of th e 40D to reach 6.5 fps shows that the camera can't perform!

Stealthy Ninja
4th of March 2009 (Wed), 03:16
Heh heh, good one.

When lightrules uses a 40D, it doesn't go to high speed burst. Therefore, the high speed burst function causes Lightrules to act stupidly. If you don't agree with me/us an hawk and a ninja will beat you up.

tonylong

Well, hey, let me lay this on you:

I believe, from all the evidence that has been presented on this forum, that not just the 40D but all the Canon DSLRS have serious problems, and so when the mighty LightRules claims he can't get 6.5 fps, that means that the 40D can't get 6.5 fps, case settled!

Hmm...let me get this straight. Tony is a bird. He's had some genetic issues. The Ninj' doesn't want to get into "Ad Hominem" attacks.
Well, are Ad Avisem attacks, ok, ya dum ol' hawk? So...who ever said boyds could buy cameras anyways....let alone take dose fancy-pantsy pictures and talk all clever wid us humans?!?!? Aye....aye??!

OK so maybe LR's problem wasn't that his 40D was not hitting 6.5fps but his short term memory was not perciveing the 6.5fps dimension at the time there for even though it happened for LR's it didn't.

If you have 40D and LightRules can't get 6.5fps, then you can't have 6.5 fps
LightRules always rules in FPS game. He can play 6.5 FPS games all at once when he turn on his burst mode.
Canon pays Lightrules everytime a 40D reach 6.5 FPS
LightRules can shoot at 6.5 FPS while sleeping
LightRules can reach 13FPS by shooting 2 40D at the same time

Well, the knowhow could be how to have thousands of posts in a thread that is about affectionately poking fun at one beloved member and have it survive so long (largely thanks to that one member who regularly "bumps" the thread if there's not enough activity to keep him occupied)!

ONTOLOGICAL ARGUMENT FOR LIGHTRULE'S AWESOMENESS
I define "not being awesome" to be: not finding the H fps setting on a 40D.
Since I cannot conceive of Lightrules not finding the H fps setting, the H fps setting must not exist.
Therefore, Lightrules is awesome.

Doggone it! I was building up to an ontological argument (my one esoteric philosophical construct) and you got there first. Get back to work and give the rest of us a chance, for Pete's sake.

I think where he lives, that's a delicacy.

I've heard that the brains are good.

If you eat them, you'll remember how to use your camera, for example.

So, you're suggesting LR should eat them (a lot)? ;):D:eek::confused:

I dont care how good they make my memory I just couldnt force myself to eat them.

As for LR eating them, Im sure that 6.5 FPS (fowls per serving) would help him remember how to use the camera!:lol::lol::lol:

So, anyone getting their MKIII fixed lately?

(Hello, LR)

Can't. I have to cover Fashion Week all of next week so I need both bodies. The whole thing is annoying as hell  (Canon, not Fashion Week).

I have not followed that whole story -- Near as I can tell, I need a firmware upgrade, that's it, but I'll have to check closer......

Well apparently the fix works - it seems like they replace a few washers and screws - the few who have gotten them back are reporting very positive AF performance. It's just a problem when y'know, I'm booked to shoot every week and Canon keeps trying to take my goddamn cameras back.

If mine must go in, then I'll send it soon, before LAX starts.

New term: Cananger - Anger with Canon

Hey Ninj'.....which one is you?
;)

No, seriously, 'cos if it's you on the right, it proves what a master of disguise you are!

Oh and what's all this about the MkIII? What's the problem Perry?

There's a new recall/fix.

There's a new recall/fix.

What a pain.

Is it affecting you as such, or simply something to perhaps "avoid" an issue later?

Perry Ge

Bit of both, really. 99% of the time the Mark 3 is the best camera ever. The other 1% of the time I don't know WTF the AF is doing.

That's not good news. I've heard about the "AF issues" but not having one, haven't read up about it in detail.....

Do let the community know when it's sorted, as the replacement (about a year after release) is probably the dream body I'll actually be able to own.... :D

Tell me about it.

I think the MKIIIN will be fine.

Is it ok to be sick from seeing a photo? That turns my stomach:o

Now, I find that hard to believe... Mr. Scotland... :p

Haggis Recipe
Ingredients:
Set of sheep's heart, lungs and liver (cleaned by a butcher)
One beef bung (I DO NOT want to know what this is...)
3 cups finely chopped suet
One cup medium ground oatmeal
Two medium onions, finely chopped
One cup beef stock
One teaspoon salt
˝ teaspoon pepper
One teaspoon nutmeg
˝ teaspoon mace

Method:
Trim off any excess fat and sinew from the sheep's intestine and, if present, discard the windpipe. Place in a large pan, cover with water and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for an hour or possibly longer to ensure that they are all tender. Drain and cool.

Some chefs toast the oatmeal in an oven until it is thoroughly dried out (but not browned or burnt!)

Finely chop the meat and combine in a large bowl with the suet, oatmeal, finely chopped onions, beef stock, salt, pepper, nutmeg and mace. Make sure the ingredients are mixed well. Stuff the meat and spices mixture into the beef bung which should be over half full. Then press out the air and tie the open ends tightly with string. Make sure that you leave room for the mixture to expand or else it may burst while cooking. If it looks as though it may do that, prick with a sharp needle to reduce the pressure.

Place in a pot and cover with water. Bring to the boil and immediately reduce the heat and simmer, covered, for three hours. Avoid boiling vigorously to avoid bursting the skin.

Serve hot with "champit tatties and ba**** neeps" (mashed/creamed potato and turnip/swede).

Have you never eaten haggis?

It's the dog's b*llox!

Well, not literally, obviously. But it's so delicious!

Maybe you're talking about Japanese Haggis :p

Nah, that would be Korean or Chinese Haggis more likely.

BTW in case you Americans don't understand. There is not such thing as Korean or Chinese Haggis. There is an American Haggis... you know it as a "Hot Dog".

;)

I wouldn't eat haggis because it has boiled meat (which I don't like) and porridge (oatmeal) in it (according to that recipe. Porridge makes me... well... run to the... you get the idea. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

I think you'd better apologize to the entire Scottish nation (especially, his holiness, Lord Sir Sean Connory!) for that comment. Comparing a haggis to a hot-dog is tantamount to treason!

And this coming from a man who (apparently?) eats chicken heads?
