It is unfortunate that the OP is getting lit up for starting this thread. Being new to the 40D, I am reading the manual and browsing the forums in an effort to understand how to set up the camera and optimize its functions. I hadn't gotten to the 6.5 fps issue, but I know I will once I start regularly shooting high school basketball (1st league game is tomorrow). This is one limitation that I will be able to avoid thanks to this thread.

I wouldn't worry too much about LightRules (Jojo). Pretty much everyone here has either bought something from him, read his lens reviews, or had their questions answered by him at some point. Nobody is actually insulting him. It's more like whn you catch your teacher not knowing the answer to a question. ;)

I experienced a sense of confusion and bewilderment over this exact issue!

I received my 40D body for Christmas and the same day my wife and I took our labrador puppy for a walk in a forest nearby and I was eager to try out the new camera. Needless to say, I found myself exclaiming to my wife that the 40D burst mode seemed to be slower than my 20D !
Fortunately while going through the settings again I found the second burst mode and thought I 'd see what it did - it was the H setting so I found myself immediately in fps heaven.

@LR -

Ah, we tried.

I saw your 'retirement' thread fly by, and I think many on POTN would agree completely when I say your lens tests were grounded in reality more than any others I've seen.

Sure, lots of places have the uber-technical detail, and they are useful sites, but you were bringing comparable examples together as a practioner. That honest combination of comparing price/performance, IMO, was unique.

I thought it was one of the few sites that I'd ever pay for, besides donations to POTN.

@Adamora - Contact PACACE to make royalty payments. :p;)

There is probably a setting to adjust it to higher speeds. Anyone know how?

Shouldn't that be "Set continuous shot to hi heat"?

This thread is the funniest thing ever, I just lost 40 minutes of my life reading through the whole thing.

Lightrules, you should post side by side images of the 40D menus on your site. First with High speed burst off, then on .

I had unsubscribed from this thread, having joined the Committee to Leave Lightrules Alone.

But, having seen danielyamseng's correct post, I decided to re-up.

The show must go on.

Yea My S3IS even has two burst modes :P

High is 2.3fps and I don't know what low is probably like 1.5FPS or something but you set which one you want in the menu so when you hit drive button there is only one burst to choose from unless you go into menu to change it

PetKals' thread on the FM forum, which references this one, has a point.
http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/602553/3#lastmessage

Post 'em up, we all make mistakes.

Today, I thought the 30D didn't work as I set it up for my wife to shoot b-ball; turns out my wife had turned off the battery grip buttons.

So, let's cut LR some slack and report this thread to be locked or removed in honor of LR's vast contributions.

I think we should spend some time discussing if this thread should be removed. I'm think about 4 or 5 more pages of discuss should do it. ;-)

LR has almost gone beyond sainthood in being a good sport who has tolerated this nonsense that has probably outlived its useful life several times over. Just so that we don't continue to overindulge and reach the point of being annoying, think about how far a joke should be carried.

Anyone else have an issue with their 40D not anywhere near 6.5 FPS?

Thanks JC4, you've solved my problem.

I wonder what happened to all the shots you missed until you discovered how to capture them with your turbo burst mode? Are they still out there waiting to be captured? can someone else capture them? Did they just die? Are they in suspended animation?
