You want a tough sport. Try Aussie Rules Football. The umpires are fitter than an average rugby gorilla. :p

Seriously though, Rugby players are bigger and tougher, Aussie Rules guys are still tough, but they run more, so they're a lot fitter usually (win swimming races for example).

Aussie Rules is sort of like Gallic Football. :)

You know I sort of like NFL myself. Pretty fun to mess around playing (we use to play it in a beach volleyball court we had at school).

It's not a popular game outside the U.S. though. I'm sure there is no team called the "London Silly Nannies" too. :p

My favourite ball sport is cricket. It's amazing how you can sit down at home for a whole day and watch that sport no problem (test matches tend to be a bit boring though... 5 days).

Soccer is boring to me (OK to play though)

Rugby is not popular where I come from (Tasmania) it is popular in NSW and QLD though.

Aussie Rules is not a sport I ever really liked to be honest.

Ice Hockey isn't popular in Australia so I don't know (I did watch the "Mighty Ducks" once  )

Baseball... I've never watched. I have played softball, which is sort of fun to play.

I've just been booked for my first (paid) studio/home (depends on what they choose) portrait session.

Being Chinese dudes, they'll probably want some sort of family picture as well as a few nice arty "looking out da window" pics.

So, should I sell my 5DII to get a 40D so I can use 6.5fps?! :p

85 1.2
135 2
70-200

Stealthy Ninja
13th of August 2009 (Thu), 04:24
Well, I'm waiting for the 70-200 2.8L IS II (or whatever) and perhaps the 35L II and perhaps the 100mm 2.8 IS macro. Which are all rumoured to come out.

The 135mm is a f/2 BTW (and definitely one my "maybe" list)

85L is way more than I want/need to spend (I'd love it though).

Maybe the 85 1.8 will do for now. ;) Stupid Canon, bring out your lenses when I need them why don't ya!

In the end, I'll probably use my 200 2.8L and 16-35 2.8 (for the wider stuff). Then also borrow a 70-200 f/4 IS and the 100mm 2.8 macro (my friend has these lenses).

Then I can just wait for lenses that will be released (see what's coming). :D

POTN Head
13th of August 2009 (Thu), 04:35
Yep. The 85 1.8 will be an inexpensive way to get the job done while you wait for the 70-200 or figure out what you like to shoot. I see a lot of great shots from it, and I see it works really well with 5D's.

I said f2..see?

Excuse that "Last edited by POTN Head: ..." line.

Tim certainly spoke good English.

I just don't know what can be done. He told me it is not possible to calibrate the lens. Not that there was something physically wrong with it, just that since it was the old model there was nothing that could be done to electronically calibrate it. He almost made it sound like they have to change out the electronics in the lens to change calibration.

He did say that I could trade the lens in (along with $2400) for the newer model. He seemed kind of surprised when I told him to send it back to me, and then said something about just the warranty card not being sufficient to get warranty service done.

To be clear, this lens would have only had a 4 year warranty, correct? I do have the receipt for it now, and it is a few months shy of 5 years old.

Sage is a brush (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artemisia_tridentata), or a bird (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sage-grouse)!

Or could there be a new sage-ninja?

Nope, just buy another one and hold both shutter buttons down at the same time. 7 fps all day and night (until the buffer fills up).

Now that you mention it, that's a great idea. Too bad it's physically impossible to put on a lens that isn't made for that format! That's why I had to buy a 5D Mack 2 to use my EF USM IS 24-105 F-4 Phantom L.

I've never heard of him, but then again, I haven't had to deal with their service dept in over a year at least.

See if you can get through to Sato-san. Ask for him. You got to try to get around this Tim guy. And yes, that lens had a 4-year EX warranty.

Is Mr. Sato-san in the service dept or "other"?

Service. He's the "commander in chief" of their tech support. He is one of the few who actually work on the lenses. "Tim" (and others) are programmed to give you the run around, apparently...probably reading from a script handed to them by senior officials.

You've got to be persistent and firm. If you can't get past this Tim fellow, I'm not sure what to tell you.

Hmm. 6.5 is the number of games the Redskins will win before they start choking.

The .5 is a tie game with the Cowboys. Because the .5 is also when Romo starts choking again . This will open the door for the Eagles to go to the playoffs. Where the Eagles will also choke. This is called " nature taking it's course ".

It's funny -- I grew up in Southern California going to baseball games with the LA Dodgers. I didn't realize what it meant to hate a sports team until I moved to Northern California where there were San Fransico Giants fans and Oakland Athletics fans who hated the Dodgers with a passion. I got some real glee back in '88 seeing the hated Dodgers whup the Oakland A's in the World Series, but I had to keep my glee kinda quiet...

My dad grew up in Brooklyn, so we had a strong dislike(read hate) for the Dodgers and the Giants. It's also the reason I grew up a Yankees fan, not a popular thing in Oklahoma !

He was also Irish, so i'm a Notre Dame fan. So 6.5 could be the magic number, when someone fires Charlie :D. Come to think of it, they should have fired him 6.5 games ago .

Definitely! The World Baseball Classic was played last spring (March) with pro teams from North and South America, Australia, Asia and Europe.

Let's see:

US
Canada
Mexico
Panama
Puerto Rico
Cuba
Venezuela
Dominican Republic
Japan
Korea
Chinese Taipei
China
Australia
South Africa
Italy
Netherlands (surprised a lot of people with a very good team - but most of the players were from the Netherlands Antilles, so not such a surprise. The Caribbean has always been a baseball hotbed.)

Good baseball, too...

But the World Series is clubs only but excludes the vast majority of the world!

It's a new tournament, this year was the second time. It's supposed to be held every four years henceforth.

Nothing to do with the World Series, which is the culmination of the Major League baseball season (US and Canadian teams only). That's in October.

Heh! Of course when Americans came up with the modern form of baseball in the mid-1800s, it wasn't very practical to have a "real" world championship, so when the World Series officially began in 1903 it pretty much was all-encompassing.

There actually has been the long-running World Baseball Cup, but until recently (the '90s) professional players weren't allowed, so the World Series remained the showcase for the professional level of American Baseball.

Things have come a long ways internationally, of course, but the World Series designation goes way too far back to be an indication of American snobbery!
