you can already get solid state drives in laptops ... it adds a pretty penny though.

i know dell has them on the vostro systems.

to point out the pretty penny ... a 64gb SSD HDD adds $1k to the sticker price

I've seen 32 gig drives for about $300. I'm thinking of using one of these as my main C drive. That way, OS operation, program loading, and paging will be lightning fast. Maybe even a pair in a raid array for even more performance. ;)

SSD's sure are an interesting concept, we spec'd a few laptops at the office to include SSD's (Dell Vostro's and their higher end M90's) but the price/performance just didn't equate. Personally, I've sworn by using a RAID setup for years having worked in the animation/film/games industry and watching clusters of drives burst into flames (ever seen an SGI Onyx 3000 make 7 Seagate 10k Cheetah's go up in flames? Smells like burnt bacon and hot enough you can roast hot dogs!).

I've been using the new Intel Matrix Raid setup for the past few months on my desktop and thoroughly enjoy it, speed benefits of RAID0 with the peace of mind of RAID1... enough of my geeky banter though!
