Good Morning,
Let me apologize in advance for the quality of the pics I post here today. Being a first post, I wanted to get them up so I could get a critique. Will work on new site which will give better results.
Thanks for taking a look.

Oooh! I like the second one. Great colors. Only thing is, it seems like the horizon is a little crooked. That's easily rectified with photoshop or some other such software.
Keep posting!

Thanks. Haven't done a thing to them as yet. Have played with the sunset and tried blueing the sky and straightening the horizon but left unadjusted just for the comments on how I might fix.

It's nice, but seems a little unbalanced to me. What do you think about cropping it vertically something like this?:

G2Jim,
Once again, input from the experts is what I wanted. You are exactly right. A good crop is just the solution. I was knocked out by the colors so kept the horizon in tact to show it. Sre isn't necessary to capture the moment. Thanks.
I still need practice, so I'll keep snapping away and send a few along to the forum for input.

We do not know much about you, and that makes commenting a bit of a shot in he dark! If this is your first-ever month with a camera, thee are fantastic shots. If you have been shooting for years, but have just switched to digital, they are excellent. One thing for sure, once you decide to shoot a particular scene that is it. The die is cast, the light is set, the angles are fixed, the camera parameters set, etc .
So you chose two great scenes.
1: I (when I get it out of the garage) dry sail my GP14 and this is a sweet photo. Obviously the shack detracts, the tree splits the image (geee if that tree could have canopied-out the left had sky, the starboard hull is lost in shadow (a problem with any nite shot of a cat). In contrast the light on the port hull is fantastic and seems to be reflecting both color and ripples in the water. The wind is down. The shrouds and mast add to the sense of calm and peacefulness. Great mood..
2: Sunset. Nice. I really do not want to crop this shot. The sun is bang on a golden mean. But true, the half-tree on the right side acts as a discontinuity in an otherwise bucolic scene. That said, it is a lovely shot.
So you did all that you could do once you placed your feet in time and space. I guess that you could look for another boat in a more photogenic location and shoot a ½ hour earlier. If you really got lucky you might silhouette that next boat against that red sunset.
The beauty of these excellent shots is that they are a base to build on. Or how about these same shots again – but when the leaves are colored”?!
Who knows. I enjoyed the quiet of both views.

Howie,
Thanks for the comments/compliments on my shots. I think I shot well over 150 pics those two days on the eastern shore of Maryland. You are right , I do tend to look for the shots that "whisper" to me as I move around the area. You have nailed it.
Sorry about the lack of personal info......I am strictly a weekend shooter. Have done a lot of reading and experimented with film over the years strictly as a persistent amateur. I'm in my fifties and have always loved photography. Film was what I used but was never very happy with the results. So....I got the G2 in December along with some 128meg cards and now I take hundreds of pics using my good 'ole "trial and error" method and continue to hope that the experience will teach me a thing or two. This forum has been very helpful and I appreciate all the work everyone does with the questions and critiques.
I just love to find those special settings with the good light and great colors. Still working on my editing skills and need to hook up with Photoshop so I can try the suggestions the Pro's give on the forum.
Thanks very much for you time. I hope to post some more pics soon.
