they should always go down the mkII route. The 5d is legendary, by making a mark 2 you're saying "the first one was so good, all we had to do was add bits to it, no new model required."

or something

I just wish i had one...

...and the time to use it...

looks like i'm prob right about the 7d: http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/02/canons-eos-7d-gets-its-very-own-upc/

From the other threads it seems like you are trying to push your case pretty hard for a 7D. However those UPC cannot be trusted. There is actually a 70D (http://www.upcdatabase.com/item.asp?upc=082966214202) and a 320D (http://www.upcdatabase.com/item.asp?upc=0082967214201) on there right now. That doesn't mean that they are the names of future cameras or that an update will happen soon.

Anyone can put a code up there. See this: http://www.pbase.com/dlcmh/canon_eos_7d

Personally I like the thought that the 5D line will split and canon will release a 3D at PMA and keep the 5DII in development and give it some great specs for release at Photokina. A cheaper FF with great features plus a slightly more expensive FF with even more up to date specs.

All the best,
Nelson

Spoke to a friend who had some (what seemed to be) some reliable info. Said it will be the 7D and they already have betas being tested, would have come out sooner then the sub-mirror on the mkIII pushed back the date a bit....But, even though it seemed to be reliable info, I took it with a grain of salt

My guess is still 5D Mk II..... It is going to follow the same route as the 1D. :)

A 7D would most likely be disappointing. Remember the larger the number the less professional the model. I would prefer to see a 5DMII with 5fps and a 3D with 6.5 fps. But Canon already has to many cameras. They need to widdle this down to no more than 5.

So I guess 5D MII

Oh my $@# I',m posting in a rumor thread?

...Remember the larger the number the less professional the model. ...

So the 40D is "less professional" than the 10D?

It doesn't actually work that way at all. The lower numbers only indicate a higher "series" within the series, for the most part, higher numbers mean newer models.
The 1 series is the exception, where they don't get higher with new models.

But all others thus far,

D30 - D60
10D - 40D
300D - 400D etc..

Now so far the 5D is the one model in it's series so it's an open field as to what direction it could go. But based on past models, a 6D or 7D would be perfectly logical. If they went with the 1 Series idea, reserving the 1 specific number for the model series, then yes, 5D MkII

I see no reason why Canon would change it from the 5D line... 5D Mark II just makes the most sense since it will be an upgrade to an existing body.

I personally don't care at all what they call it.

However, I have a sneaky suspicion that they may go with something totally new like 6d or 7d to help lift the spirits of all the Canon users who feel like Nikon has been taking the lead. In the end the name they put on the front of the camera is just a name... But perhaps psychologically an entirely different model name could make some people feel like Canon now offers a new, fresh, cutting edge camera that is so technologically advanced it deserves a whole new name.

God help us all if our piece of mind is influenced by it's model name! :D

They will split the lines - a 7D and 5DII

Canon is a bit weird how they distinguish their models from pro and semi-pro.

The single digit models (1Ds, 1D, 5D) are a higher grade/pro level than the double digit models (10D, 20D, 30D, 40D) semi-pro level models.

Now the single digit models are better the lower the digit and the the double digit models are better when the double digit is higher. Weird.

I would think they will update the camera body to reflect better ergonomics, so I would not expect to see a mkII.

i was in the camera shop this weekend, talking to the owner, he said that the canon rep was in and said that no major dslr cameras are coming out this January. however later in the year they are going to come out with the replacement for the 5d, he said they will probably call it the 7d, because everyone knows the rep of the 5d, however its going to be a major improvement, so it gets a new name. but who knows?

ROTFLOL! I like that one, If Canon names it that I will take out a loan to be first in line to buy it! otherwise I will have to wait several years until I have the funds. :)

I can't seem to vote. Seems like we don't have enough rumor threads this week so I better start a new thread listing both new cameras, 7D and 3D!
