Heading to Nuevo Vallarta for a week in Feb. and I'm just wondering if anyone has some suggestions on sites to see/photograph?

I'm not sure if there are any ruins close to that area??

Nothing close we stayed at Palladium Vallarta when we where there acouple of years ago. However lots of great shoreline to photograph. Also often you can find whales in the bay showing off just off the cost.

That sucks....
We are going on a Jeep tour through the mountains so maybe I'll find something there to photograph.
My wife wanted to go on a Whale watching excursion and I was like...Ehhhh.... But it would be could to catch one with a fin out of the water!?!?

I'm sure I'll find something to take pictures of...... It might be a lot of bikini clad women but that counts as practice, Right?

We're staying at the Palace Vallarta....

There is tons to photograph.I just came back 2 weeks before Christmas.Go into Puerto Vallarta(PV) and check out the old church. Its 150 years old and you can go inside.Go along the side streets and check them out also. You can also go up to where the movie Night of the Iguana was filmed back in 1964.I didnt actually go in but I think the tour guide mentioned that it was a restaurant or something.Regards.GORDO

I really wanted to get out to where the tourists Dont go but I'm a little worried about getting shot, stabbed, kicked, poked, pelted.......???
Is it safe to get off the beaten path down there with a backpack full of camera gear?

Pack light. As long as you use common sense and treat people with respect,I really dont think you will have any issues. Personally, I did not have any problems.Tipping for a photo goes along way too.Alot of the older locals have tons of character in their faces.Enjoy your holiday.GORDO

Tipping is a good idea! I sound like I'm paranoid but I've never been out of the US so I just don't know how it is elsewhere.......And its bad here!!

Actually the whale watching isn't too bad. And depending on what tour you use I guess, you also go to a couple of different beaches along the way. The boat I was in was pretty small and got pretty up close and personal... actually a little too much for the operator. He got scared when the tour guide told him to get closer. Since they're small boats, you feel every wave so if you're prone to sea sickness, beware. I guess it's a YMMV kind of thing overall.

I also did a walking tour through town that was pretty nice and there was another tour I did but I forget what it was called. It took us on a pretty long bus ride to some remote (felt remote anyway) waterfall. That was very scenic.

We plan on doing a "Jeep tour"..... You basically rent a Jeep Wrangler, pile 3 other people in and then follow the lead Jeep/tour guide up the Sierra Madre mountain range to a authentic Mexican ranchero and have lunch and then go back down.
We also plan on a city tour because its free with the resort.

I wanted to do a Canopy tour but there are no camera's allowed...........?

The resort has rental cars and we thought about renting one to get out by ourselves but I think we would be safer if we had a guide.....
