my insurance agent talked me into carrying insurance on my gear, i have it covered for about 15k which is a break down of everything, from my memory cards and batteries to my back packs. it covers everything including theft, damage, loss, and anything else you could think of; and its less than 20$ a month,
the bad news is that i dropped my 5d, and my 16-35L in the river in glacier national park the other day, however they are going to cash me out at the price i gave them for my policy. which is 2700 for the 5d and 1500 for the lens. and just like that with in a week i will have the check from the insurance company, there was zero hassle. and it was fast and painless,,, except for the fact that i feel stupid for dropping my camera.

but i suggest everyone with more than a couple of thousand dollars in gear to go out and insure it... i have state farm if anyone is curious.

^^^^^haha great mindsYeah, we could have at least pretended to be sorry that he lost his gear. But, noooooooo, we only care about what's next in the cart.:)

I wonder if I can get a policy that covers my equipment worldwide... Going to Gambia at the end of the month, my biggest fear is getting my equipment ripped off.

there are no restrictions to my policy, hell i didnt even recover the camera. and ya,, thanks alot for your sympathy, as for my plans, i dont know yet. i am going to wait and see what happens.
but you guys are missing the moral of the story.. its not what im going to get after the accident.. its that i can afford to do something, and i was covered. as should all of you. if you cant afford to just go out and replace your gear, or even if you can know that **** happens, this is a great deal...
i think of insurance as the kind thing that the people who dont have it, are usually the ones who cant afford to not have it.
