I don't have the fanciest camera but I just got this shot of an Osprey at work. No PP, straight out of camera. Not the closest shot either but as close as I could get. He flew off as a tried to move around in front of him... boo.

Nice shot :)
I would say next time wait a bit and let him start eating he will probably ignore you after that!
That has worked for me in the past :)

Thanks!
Last time we had an osprey at work I didn't have this camera. But he was eating a fish... and you had to be careful where you stood because the guts were raining down. : )

Great shot! I can't believe you got that with 300mm either! And, if this is a crop, then it was really a good shot! How far away were you? My Osprey shots are garbage!
300mm isn't enough for the encounters I've had!

Not cropped... I was too lazy and I was at work.
The osprey was up in a tree, obviously... but otherwise I suppose he wasn't too far...
Here's a shot I took before I thought to myself... "hello!! why don't you use the zoom?!?! duh..."
It's not very good but it gives you a better idea how far I was... sorta.

This works, a couple of times iv'e gotten really close even getting a shower of fish scales as the osprey was 12 feet above me.

Since we are talking Ospreys. Here is one I got flying over my head.
It is cropped by about 50%

very nice, getting him with a meal!
i think it is a gret shot...its very hard to manuver around birds to shoot them...
i have had my share of stalking birds,....only to get no shot.!
keep it up!

I just got my digital SLR for Christmas so I'm having a grand time with it! I missed being able to push the button and have the picture take immediately! : )

Great shot of beautiful bird.
I got painted by a Great Blue Heron while out running and I didn't feel a bit lucky. :D
