Does anyone know of any serious tests/comparisons on the net for these lenses?
I don't think i've ever seen side by side pics from them. The ones i'm mostly interested in are the canon 70-200/4 L,70-200/2.8 L(& IS version) plus the sigma 70-200 EX
This site has one good comparison that i know of but it's not controled/scientific enough for what i want
Thanks for any help!

I've tried doing something like this, but didn't go through. I need discipline. (not spanking though  )

This is the "semi scientific" test. I was harassing the salesman for about 20 minutes, mounted this on some 500 buck pro tripod and used 10 sec delay.
Fully manual, 0 sharpening, 0 colors... Jpeg was not processed ideally and was saved twice (I think) thus giving it some artifacts.
I screwed up the names of the files, and what I thought were sigma shots, turned out to be L shots.
As you see, the difference between the sigma and the L is quite dramatic, esp wide open at full tele. So L would be preferrable. When stopped down to f/8 you can't see the difference.
Anyways, take a look at the pics and whichever looks better is L.
Hope this helps.

In the EOS sticky in the reviews section there are few links.. icluding the pretty crappy one I wrote.. it was more concerned with ergonomics than image quality.. and the images I did take were just some "lame ducks" at the time...
But it may be a start....
I'd love it if we could add to that thread.. or others.. seems we have a lot of members who one one or another of these lenses..
We could eventually put together a great cross section of each one. It seems the "which 70-200" question is one of our most frequent here.

Thanks Doc,that does help a fair bit!
At least i know now that the sigma is NOT an exact match for the canon,so i'll now make sure i see some serious test results before i decide
"lame ducks" LOL
Good one CDS
