I took my wife out for lunch and a movie today. Movie started at 12:45 so it was pretty empty.
In front of the theater is a 4-way stop, as I was approching the 4-way a pick-up truck to my right actually sped up to try to get the right of way. He was quite a bit behind me so I had the right of way, however he went past the stop bar to attempt to go in front of me. This happens all the time I'm sure to everyone, no big deal.
So with him behind me I don't enter the parking lanes straight ahead I make a left and go down a couple, cause I didn't want him behind me. We looked at the movie times real quick and headed down another parking lane. Well it ended up he was waiting for a van to back out of a space, and there were 2 other spaces next to that. So I pulled into 1 of the 3 spaces and he starts honking his horn and what not and when I get out of the car he's screaming that he was waiting for that space. I just looked at him with a blank expression then turned away he said "Oh good thing you got it though!" I turned around and looked at him again, but I didn't start anything cause I saw he had a 5 or 6 year old son with him and I thought to myself it's not worth it, just walk away.
I heard his truck start and I knew right away what he was planning on doing, and sure enough he did. He moved his truck to a different location, walked back to my wifes new BMW and keyed both drivers side doors.
I thought of walking back out to check, but I had hoped that a man in his mid 40's with a child with him would be a better role model then to key a car over a certan parking space.
If I was a big enough jerk to have taken the only parking space then sure, I derserved it. However there were 3 spaces, how was I doing wrong by parking in one of them?
I couldn't care less about the car, it's just a car and it'll never be perfect forever. But Why? Why get so upset over something so little?
I have run-ins with people more and more, it seems like it's once a week now days. What gives?

people are aholes. you should have called the cops, taken his plate numbers and reported this act of vandalism to his insurance company. on a new BMW i can only imagine that fixing the paint wont be cheap.

I drove around the area and his truck was nowhere to be found. I had my wife go inside and ask the manager if they had securty cameras, which he told her they only have them on the inside. He offered to call the police, but I know nothing would ever come of it.

I would not have been as quiet as you. A confrontation would have happened.
And the cops would have been involved immediately. I think the child should learn you will be held responsible for your actions, even if you are "dad".
Definite would be a vandalism charge with damages well into the criminal area.
Oh, BTW, I'm finding more and more that people are just being stupid.
One of my resolutions was to confront those that involved me in their stupidity.

If the perp (CSI talk here ;)) was found, sure I would have filed charges. However I didn't even get a license plate so my conversation with the police would have went like this "Green F-250/350, caucation male, middle aged, uuhhhh....uuhhh... that's all" and they would say something along the lines of "We'll let you know".
But I do think you are right that the child should learn that your actions have consequences. But I don't think a screaming match or a fight would have done anything postive for the child.
All I can hope for is that the man feels regret and decides to do something good for somebody else. Call it Karma if you are into the sort of thing.

Sounds like everyday that I have to go to Costco parking lot, or heaven forbid WalMart. I park in the most far away spot available and pray I don't get ran over by some jerk trying to beat someone else out of a parking spot. I could go on for hours on this one, but I won't!
Parking lots do seem to bring out the worst in many.
Wouldn't it be fun to drive some old beater car and accidently "run into" a few of these people. jk
True story...Last month at Xmas time, I was in a mall parking lot, I saw a couple getting in their car to leave right as I was approaching their parking place. I thought great, I get a good spot this time without a fight, no one else was even waiting for it. WRONG! From the next lane over comes an older woman with two small children, she has gotten out of the car she was a passenger in and walks into the parking place I was was waiting for. She stands there arms crossed across her chest and a "Just try to move me" look on her face. She was going to SAVE this spot while the driver she was with comes around to take the parking place! I was dumbfounded! I actually laughed, shook my head, resisted the urge to give her the single finger salute, and drove away. Of course my husband says I should have pulled in anyway and honked until she moved, but she had kids with her and I didn't want to cause a scene. I was really amazed that someone would have the nerve to do that!

Perhaps his son will take a cue from dad and go out and decorate dad's truck with a key....since it is pretty neat for dad to do it!;)
Sucks about your car though.

I've seen that happen before.
My mom had something pretty funny happen to her, well, it was kinda funny.
She went to wal mart at 7am one morning, she was just one of a handful of cars in the lot. As she was walking out, she saw a van dodge to miss an empty box blowing in the wind and ram into the back of her expedition. She was pretty upset about the ordeal, but can you imagine the conversation to the insurance company... "I was just trying to miss the little empty box."

Ok, your story totally sucks. But there are freaks like this everywhere. I parked in an "adult with children" parking spot at a local grocery store. Thinking nothing of being chastized because I had two kids with me, some jerk comes out of no where and says, "You've got to be kidding me about that parking space. How liberal is this state? How old are those kids? They have two legs, can they walk yet?" So I was like, okay, whatever you a-hole. So I go into the store and as I'm leaving, the manager asks me if I need help getting the groceries out. I said, no, but told him about the incident. He asked if I knew the guy b/c he went to him and said he wanted to see "Single Men with Six Packs" spaces near the store. Apparently, he was in a fit of rage. WTF?! Some seriously disturbed people in this world. My kids do tend to make me nuts, but I would NEVER do what that jerk did - your jerk, or mine. What a bunch of friggin idiots.

So not I am sitting here thinking about this.
What should someone do if this happens? I mean we assume, or I do anyway that the car has the right to be in the parking place. But we as drivers could not physically make her move out of the way, well we could, but we would most likely get in trouble. So say I did just pull in as much as I could and honk or tell her to please move, what if she won't ? There were no cart collectors, employees, or cops in the parking lot. Hummmmmmmmmm.
Just a thought.

People these day sicken me. I'm a fairly new driver, I have only had my license for give or take a year. I see idiots on the road on a regular bases, I like to think I'm a safe driver but thats not even enough these days.
In order to get home I need to make a left on a small intersection and I'm often waiting in the middle of the intersection as the light is about to turn red. Every so often an idiot will speed by going 80+ easily on a 50MPH street. I can not recall the number of times I have almost been hit.
On a unrelated note the dog is licking our leather couch...

I have a similar situation that happens often. I have to stop almost every morning at a traffic light controlled intersection that is pretty wide from all lanes. Two lanes all directions but no designated turn lane, left lane is either go straight or turn left. So often the car facing me will take off as soon as the light changes an make a left turn right in front of me, who is going to go straight. First time it happened, I nearly hit the turning car, now I am aware it might happen and I hesitate a second before going through the intersection. Take note that I said "a second", and this second is all the time the driver behind me needs to lay on his horn and flip me off because I am not going yet! Jeez! I can't win! lol

Not for now, I have a $1,000 deductible cause insurance as you might expect is OUTRAGEOUS for a 20 year old male and 21 year old female with a 3 Series.

Kathy - I know that feeling. There is a nice sized dip as you leave here at the light up the hill.... never fails about once a week (that I happen to see) someone turning left from the other way will zip in front of you thinking you're too slow, and that is why there's an accident there just about daily.

Yeah I think about having a beater all the time, so when people tailgate me to the point that I cannot see their headlight in my rearview that I would slam on my brakes and get rearended.
And I too, think you did nothing wrong. You were not the one who invented the parking space.
Nothing is wrong with having a reserved space for a president of a company? He can walk, more-so then children.

I dont get it... People are very mean these days.
Oh I had some fun a few weeks back coming home from Cheyenne. There was a semi truck with no trailer that came up on me wayyyy fast. I was in the hammer lane doing 81 in a 75 as I normally do. He was right on my ass, so I slowed down with the car net to me. He jetted over two lanes and I sped up. I was in my wife's jetta, and that thing goes... its only a 1.8T but man that thing moves. I got past the car next to me and the semi started coming over, and over, and over... Thank god we werent next tot he concrete barrier on the left side. It had just ended as we passed under the bridge where E470 meets I-25. I had to swerve slightly left because I dont think he saw me, as the jetta is black and there arent any lights around. Anyhow.... he then took off right into the emergency lane on the right of the road and continued to drive at about 75mph. I just stayed in my lane and kept going 81.
I get past him, he starts yanking his horn, and then gets on my ass again with his brights on, ok no big deal, flipped the mirror down to dim it and all was well. He just stayed on my until he had to exit onto I-270. Scared my wife a little but he was just a jerk and deserved what he got. I hate it when people do crap like that.
Ohhhhh.... dang, I attract the dumbest drivers I swear.
Just last week when we were in Cheyenne, I got passed by a mitsubishi something or another. Its a 5 lane road, 2 lanes with traffic going east/west and one shared turning lane. He passed me in the turning lane, and then as he was coming over he threw rocks and all sorts of crap all over the car because it had snowed and they laid gravel on the roads.
Needless to say we hit 70+mph in a 40mph zone. Luckily we didnt get caught or injured. My mom and wife were in the car. I am too much like my mom when it comes to crap like this. She got on the phone with the police and we just followed the car. He pulled into autozone and apparently had a passenger with him, and they both got out. The driver came back to my car window. I just drove past him and got back on a side street within view of him and waited. The passenger got into his car in the parking lot at autozone and the Mitsubishi drove behind that honda with its lights off in case it came across the cops. Kinda crazy. Man if there werent two guys I would have gotten out and said something but I didnt.
The last time I got out and confronted the guy that rear ended me, it ended up in a fight where we both got a nice ticket. I laughed it off. I'm not much of a fighter but dont push me. I let the guy have it pretty good too.
Ok, those are my real good stories with road rage.

There are plenty of good people out there as my story proves. I was second in line waiting for a parking space when the driver in the car behind began blowing his horn. The car in front of me could go nowhere and neither could I. A young man was walking to his car which was behind us and as he passed the idiot who was honking said something to him. The guy along with his passenger got out, the young man flattened the driver with one punch and the passenger was last seen leaving the lot in a full gallop. The car behind the guy laying on the ground began blowing his horn at the idiot who didn't get up for a couple of minutes. I hope someone learned a lesson and the young man didn't hurt his hand. Happy New Year!

And don't leave out the idiots that try to pass you in a construction zone! I've seen them drive on the shoulder of the road, all the way up a line of stopped cars! Where do they think they are going to get? And then some bigger idiot lets them in once the traffic starts moving!!!!!

Hehe, now thats a good read.
I went to ahem, wal mart, yesterday and parked pretty far down as it was the only spot in the row. There was a PT cruiser that was waiting on someone to back out, but needed to back up about 5 feet in order for them to get out. The car behind the pt cruiser must have really wanted that spot because they moved forward trying to get the pt cruiser to back into them as they put it in reverse to move back a bit. There was about 6 inches between the pt cruiser and the car behind it as I walked by. There was all sorts of honking and yelling going on. I just walked by, hung my head and laughed.

Oh. and guys.... dont piss off semi drivers. They do have CB ya know. I have a lot of good friends that drive trucks for a living and the stories they tell are amazing. One of my friends has driven real close to the pylons before, creating a nice tail wind that will pick the big orange barrels up and move them, letting the driver behind get it in the windshield or even oncoming traffic on a two lane stretch. They've ran vehicles into ditches because they try to weasel in at least minute, because who wants to be behind a semi... ?!
Yeah... good stories. As people post more I am sure I will have more. I do my fair share of driving, about 50-75k miles a year. Granted that's not a lot compared to some, but its a nice amount.

Oh and in my company I drive everything from light duty dump trucks to tractor/trailers, which is how I run into road rage more often then the average person.
One time I was in my semi and it was stop and go traffic in rush hour, a woman in a brand spankin' new Jag S-type was on her cell phone and traffic went from 25 MPH to a complete stop and I watched her rearend somebody without even hitting her brakes once.
She proceeded to get out of her now smoldering Jag and scream and cuss at the person she rearended!!! Imagine that!
I was driving a F-750 dump truck with a trailer on the back in a rather vacant subdivision looking for the house I was going to work on, and I saw that the road dead ended ahead. Before the dead end was a T in the road. I had to turn around in the T.
Flat land, there were no houses, trees, anything which would prevent somebody from seeing me from 300 yards away. Speed limit was 15 MPH.
I pulled into the T, checked both sides and started to turn around. As I was backing up I heard somebody lay on their horn. But nobody was in my rearview mirror, so I slowly proceeded to backup and then I saw an older man (in his 60's) in a car about 100' away from the intersection ranting and raving, waving his arms and giving me the bird. I couldn't help but laugh at him, which aggravated him more. So I finished turning around and he stoped to give me an ear full and for the first 30 seconds he was shouting soo muffled I had no idea what he was trying to say then he finally spit it out "I had to hit my brakes!!"
I busted out laughing again and said "So?" and he started screaming and cussing at me again and said "I'm calling your boss!" and started dailing the number on mt doorsign and I got out my cell phone and held it high and he said "Oh, so you're the boss?!? Well you're an f-ing a-hole!" I gave him the thumbs up and smiled and this guy got soo heated he said "Well I'm never hiring you again! Cause you held me up" and I replied "I've never worked for you, and you're holding up the person behind you."
He looked in his rearview mirror and realized he was doing exactly what I did to him, yet the other person was polite enough to wait, I tell you the look on his face was absolutely priceless.

I had the same parking issue happen to me last year.. 3 spaces I moved into the last leaving the woman the 1st 2 as she saw me taking the 3rd she tried backing up to encourage me to get out of the 3rd. I got out of car asked her what her problem was since there was only 2 cars and 3 parking spaces why did she need 3... her answer... I have a big vehicle and it's hard to park... It was a large SUV... my response... if you can't handle that huge gas guzzler then why don't you do your self and the rest of the world a favor and buy a smaller car that you can handle. I left my car in the 3rd space and walked away.. it's 10 years old so I really didn't car if she hit it or not. I guess she managed somehow because it was ok.

That's a good couple of stores there Nick. Hehe... it's always more aggravating when you're so kind back to the angry driver. They expect tot get flipped off right back, and this and that.
Oh goodness, here goes another funny story, oh dang.
I was coming home from school about a month and a half or so ago. There was an older model explorer in the hammer lane, making their way to the far right lane to exit the highway, which I was in the second to far right lane since the far far right was the exit only. It is a double lane exit with only one lane HAVING to exit. He was going probably 85 or 90 in a 55. I was doing the typical 70. He gets in the lane to my left, and is behind me. I speed up because there is a car not too far ahead, to block him in. I do that, and I am coming up behind a car myself, so I proceed to the far right lane. He follows me off the highway. I needed to turn left anyway, and he proceeded to turn right. He stops, rolls his window down and he is digging around bent over, and comes up and throws a starburst at my car. I look over and start laughing hysterically and he took off.
Oh man I will never forget that yellow starburst making its way over hitting my right door... Goodness that was funny.
I've also had a wendy's drink thrown at me for doing the same thing. I'm pretty anal... I hate it when people need to drive like that, so in my mind all I am doing is slowing them down, trying to save their life. :)

Granted there are some real a$$hole drivers in them sometimes, but they are not good to mess with even with a good driver. I always loved how no one wants to get behind one, unless you are in a snow storm and they can light and lead the way. But even in that circumstance there has to be that one idiot that sees the semi and the line of traffic behind it coming and has to pull out on the ice covered road at the last second rather than wait two minutes and get safely behind the traffic. THAT is a death wish! They have no idea what happens when an 80,000 lb vehicle locks up the brakes, jack knifes, and takes out everything in it's path. That really p*sses me off!

That is similar to the "expecting mothers" signs..... Heck, even Tiff could use that now.... and shes only a month along. Those signs are pretty vague but you didnt do anything wrong IMO.
My wife is 27 weeks pregnant and finds these spots GREAT. I went with her to Toys R Us during the holiday season and they've got these signs. So, as we're heading to our car to leave, two young males pull up in an SUV looking like they just stepped out of a music video. And of course, they pull into one of the "Expectant Mothers" spots, right next to us. Leave it to me to be the first one to ask which of them was the 'bottom'. They didn't quite get it...
Pull in as far as you can.... put the baby in park and get out. They'll leave eventually.
Pull into the spot and wait for their driver to pull up. Get out of your car and take pictures of all of them. Make sure to get pics of their ride, plates included. You've done nothing wrong at this point, and have plenty of evidence in case they decide to give you a new paint job ;)
I hate driving nowadays. Everyone seems to be in more of a hurry than the person in front of them and drives like an idiot because of it.

Oh. and guys.... dont piss off semi drivers. They do have CB ya know.
And use them. Maybe you have noticed before that a group will get together and slow down all lanes to a crawl and let the space in front become bigger. It helps everybody move along that way.
Cause when one person hit the brakes and slows from 70 to 60 some other idiot slows to 55, then 50, then 45, then before you know it everybody is stopped because of poor driving skills.
I'm the crazy semi-driver who stays a foot behind the car in front of me durning construction traffic jams, and I never let anybody over AFTER the sign that says "Right/Left lane closed ahead"

Maybe you'd better post your driving schedule on here so all of us who live in Denver know to avoid the roads you're on.
You're going 70 in a 55 and you feel you need to teach another driver a lesson? Really...no offense....but what's the point of pissing off already aggressive drivers? One day someone's going to get hurt - be it you, them, your passengers, or some innocent driver on the same road that's going to get caught in the middle of all this testosterone and ego.

How about a rotary? I live in MA where the person IN the rotary has the right of way. In CT, the next state over (about ten minutes for me), the person coming in has the right of way. I can't count how many blue CT plates I see cutting me off in the rotary on my way to work in the morning. I swear, it's got to be the same ten pricks every week.
What about those lovely folks that see the light turning yellow during rush hour traffic, see the cars all piled up ahead of them, and yet they still pull into the intersection to block my green light? EVERY DAY!!!

OH while we're at it, I LOVE doing the following:
Speeding up in the middle lane to block somebody trying to pass on the right when the hammer lane is open.
With BMW's the windshield washer nozzles can be adjusted, I changed one of mine so that it shoots straight up, when somebody tailgates me I turn on my windsheild washers and his their windsheild and then when they turn off their wipers I do it again.
And I usually speed around 10% of the limit, so in 55mph I'll do 60mph, well when somebody wants to go 70mph in a 55mph zone I LOVE to act like I'm lost and go 45mph and activate my turn signals then turn them off. Drives'em bonkers!

I used to live in Mass too. The rotaries are all a joke up there. It seems like no one ever has any idea who has the right-of-way. Maybe you'd better post your driving schedule on here so all of us who live in Denver know to avoid the roads you're on.

I'm on way too randomly and too often to come up with a set schedule. I do not speed around people 95% of the time. I go with the flow, and here, 70 in a 55 is typical everywhere. I agree, one day something will probably happen.
And another thing... since when did stop signs become yield signs? Grrrrr!

Yield signs are to be treated as stop signs. :) You're supposed to come to a complete stop at both.
Roundabouts are a great idea, but very few people in America would be able to adapt to them if they were implemented now. They arent common out this way anyhow.

Hehe that's a good one with the nozzles. LMAO. HAHAHAH thats a good one. I can do that in my wife's jetta to, but not intentionally. They just overshoot when driving 40mph or more.
I typically go 5-7 over as well. But in the 55, everyone goes 70 around here anyway so I just go with the flow.
As far as the blinker trick... I havent seen that done, but its a good one too :)

I don't understand why people do this. Do you feel inferior when someone passes you? If they want to speed then let them or go through Police Acadamy so you can do something about it.

The role model he set for his child is very similar to the roll models we see in the highest offices. This is a definite trickle down situation in the true sociological sense,. and it is exactly this lack of good role models that seems to be breading such behavior like wildfire.
What always goes through my head in situations such as yours, is how does this guy take this risk?
How would someone tentatively PUT HIS LIFE on the line (in this day and age he really is) just to scratch a car over a parking space.
It's baffling?

I thought of walking back out to check, but I had hoped that a man in his mid 40's with a child with him would be a better role model then to key a car over a certan parking space.

just found this thread.
I used to have a very bad temper and whenever something like this would happen i would most definitely get out of the car, start yelling up a storm, and then do something i would regret. I dont even know the amount of cell phones, lamps and walls broken from when i got pissed off. I realized getting angry was a waste of time and Im much better now and dont really get angry anymore. I now follow the motto "Dont get mad, get even" :p
Oh and kathy something like that (person standing in the spot) happened to me a few weeks ago. i was looking for a spot at sports authority and it was packed. I was behind a guy and his wife and a person pulled out right after they passed the spot. I was behind and was gonna take the spot. The guy, apparently pissed off he missed it, sent his wife out to stand in my way until he came around. All i did was pull in right in font of her and beeped once or twice and let her know i was not moving. She was being stubborn and would not move no how. So i just held down the horn hoping she would move. She didnt and a whole bunch of people came over because of the noise. they all started yelling at her and she eventually moved. I was quite amusing for me. i had no were to go and it was fun as hell.

I did good, until I got inside the store and every asile was blocked someplace by someone with their cart on one side and looking at the products on the other side. These folks that do this, must also have very selective hearing and sight because they are completly unaware that anyone else may want to get around them, even when you say "excuse me" while looking them in the eye! I bet these are the same ones that are idiots in the parking lot too!

Yeah people do have that attitude problem, and why do people try to cut in line? Even short lines, people think they're really getting somewhere if they cut in front of you with 3 people in a line.
I usually laugh and say to somebody really loud "Yeah, that person just cut in front of me" it makes them feel dumb and doesn't stir trouble like confronting them.

When I encounter that, I simply move their cart. And if they have something I'm shopping for in it, I'll take it out and put it in mine. Saves me a trip to that aisle. :D
Simply ingenious!:D

Ahhh... Yeah I didn't understand what you were trying to say at first.
Next time I will put to work the second half of the saying "Hope for the best, expect the worst"

Not sure on this one, but I really like the idea of taking items from their carts when they won't move over. I think this might be a fun thing to do to "cutters" too!:D:p

If they're fat, take the donuts and/or any other high calorie foods out of their cart and if they look at you or ask why or some such thing, just say "Sorry I was just trying to help."

First of all, for some of these posts that say you didn't do anything because the other person had kids... That's their problem - sorry. You don't have to settle for someone keying your car or standing in your parking space just because they happened to get knocked up. Let them explain to their kids why the argument happened.
I have done some things in retaliation that was pretty good. On the New Jersey Turnpike I was in the middle lane when a New York Times truck decided to tail me and start giving me the high beams. Last I checked, the left lane is for passing - and I was already going over the limit. So, for the next 2 hours, I slowed my speed down to 55 and everytime he attempted to pass me, I sped up. Then he would get behind me, and I just slowed back down to 55. Yeah, my commute was longer - but I hope he missed his deadline.
Then not too long ago, somebody gets right on my tail and leaves the high beams on. It was a single lane 50 MPH road. I was just going to deal with it, but when a car came towards us in the opposing lane, he turned off his high beams. Then turned them right back on. Well I wasn't going to take that. I slowed down to about 20 and he just went crazy flashing me, weaving to get my attention, and honking. Unfortunately, it only went on for about 5 minutes before he turned.
Then the worst one was when someone was tailing me on 95 between Baltimore and D.C. I slammed on my brakes and he went fish tailing. I immediately changed lanes and gave him a big smile as he passed. He wasn't happy. In hindsight, I don't think I should have done that. His car could have flipped or hit someone else - and nobody deserved that. But since everything turned out OK, I am glad I gave him the scare of his life.

That is similar to the "expecting mothers" signs..... Heck, even Tiff could use that now.... and shes only a month along. Those signs are pretty vague but you didnt do anything wrong IMO.
Those spots are great when carrying a 30lb baby carrier and trying to juggle your keys and purse. And....very funny.
Ok, I admit I have done this. My husband and I took our son to the zoo in Madison on a day the Badgers were playing. Well, the zoo is really close to Camp Randall so all these people parked in the zoo parking lot and tailgated. We drove around for 20 minutes fighting with each other and dealing with a screaming 1 year old. Finally, I loaded Aidan up in his stoller and headed in without my husband. I found a couple coming out and they let me follow them to their car to hold their spot for my husband after they left. I felt terrible but we had driven over an hour to get there and the zoo was closing in half an hour. So, I guess I'm evil.
