Just join a local camera club, that'll get you on the right path.

Reading the forums here will give you a great start though as well. I know it may be easier with a person to person training experience, but reading and then practicing yourself can be of great value. :)

Just get out there, pick a setting, take some pictures and show us the results. We'll help. The beauty of the forum is it's like an interactive magazine.

Check out shootsmartertv.com. You can get a ticket for 20 bucks to view all their videos for a month. You can pick up a ton of information from them. If you like it, sign up for a year. I got this as a Christmas present and have only looked at 3 of the videos, but the volume of practical information I have already gained is staggering.

Apart form what has already been said about POTN etc
How about clubs 'here':-
Guisely, Leeds
http://www.aireboroughcameraclub.co.uk/
And this full list of clubs in Yorkshire Photographic Union
http://www.ypu.org.uk/clubs.htm
Clubs may not be to everyones taste but perhaps one or two are near enough for you to give them a try.
HTH :)
PS FWIW - I Googled Leeds Camera Club and those two links were the first 2 primary ones on the first page.
