I asked earlier about choosing .net/.com

I've decided with a .com and found a name that's available, but I'm undecided now with regards to the latter part of my biz/domain name --whether it should be xyzphotography.com | wyxphoto.com or something more 'outside-the-box" like xyzcreations.com | xyzfoto.com

I was reading "The Igor Naming Guide" (http://www.igorinternational.com/process/naming-guide-product-company-names.php) and it says:

When descriptive names don't work: When they are company names. Company names that are descriptive are asked to perform only one task: explaining to the world the business that you are in. This is an unnecessary and counterproductive choice.

The downside here is many-fold. This naming strategy creates a situation that needlessly taxes a marketing and advertising budget because descriptive company names are drawn from a small pool of relevant keywords, causing them to blend together and fade into the background, indistinguishable from the bulk of their competitors - the antithesis of marketing.

It got me thinking of how common it is for photographers to simply slap on "photography" for their domain name. I can see how it's important as it is a photography business, and how much greater emphasis/success relies on their actual website content/portfolio and marketing --but doesn't it blend in as IGOR suggest?

Would anyone else here advise something slightly different such as creations.. foto.. ect?

BTW, my photography business would be mostly hi-fashion glamour, retro, punk-rock, and conceptual portraits.

I want my name to be a class of its own that creates a 'brand image'...
also.. memorable, poetic, multidimensional...
How about not even including a second part to the name indicating it's photography related?

GRRR I've been trying to think of a name for half a year now... I'm loosing my mind over it.

To return the compliment :D

I asked a while back about the 'ending' choices and apart from I mention in my OP thread it was suggested that "images" or "fineart" could be appopriate. Well I take your point above but we have a good advert here for paint/varnish and the strapline is "It does exactly what is says on the tin".

So, in the same vein - my images are photographs (I may try painterly filters one day?), I do not consider them fineart though perhaps one or two could be thought of that way. I do not do web design ~ creative stuff? ~ so where does it lead me....to the OP I put up recently. Though I do not doubt there are umpteen "photo" & "photography" websites the hoped for possible buyers of images will range from the simple surfer looking for nice image to te creative/corporate type looking for that certain something.........if you can find the magic formula to guarantee catching everyone then can I share your second million ;)
