Still trying to get to grips with this MPe65 lens, hand held and as they came out of the camera. A Locust nymph about an inch long ; only PP is the resize.

Congrats on the MPE-65 Mick. Nice closeups, shows their body arm off just nicely. Not too sure on the compositions, but that's something I suck with, so don't ask me for advice there ;)
As to tips - "hold the damn thing steady" is the first thing that came to mind (for those 5x mag shots). I don't know how the guys get shots at 5x and keep it sharp, I have enough troubles at 3x!!!

Mick - can't see the images- my PC has a problem with images linked via this site.
Main tip with using the MPE-65 at highish mags is to rest the lens on something - either the same surface as the bug or on a bit of you. I use a bean pole for free standing shots and grip the pole and a bit of camera or lens in my left hand. Increasingly recently I've started using a different technique of holding part of the plant the bug is on and then resting the lens on that hand. This way everything shakes with the same frequency including the bug :).

Composition will have to wait Dave, I'm more concerned about focus at the moment, I tried it on the tripod but every time I got a shot lined up the dam thing moved. May be it's too warm in my studio (studio= Garage) I'll have to try a few shots early morning when it's cooler.
