Guys,
How much do you spend on a battery charger and why? Is there such a thing as an ideal battery charger?

For what kind of batteries? AA? BP511? Something else altogether?

I was looking up the same thing a couple months ago. From what I could tell Maha c9000 seems to get top billing, but the LaCrosse BC-900 Advanced Charger (which is what I ultimately purchased) is up there as well. Definitely happy with it -- particularly since it resurrected some previously dead batteries.

I also have a maha c9000, the only complaint I have is it emits a very high pitched sound when charging. It is supposed to be normal, it's also mentioned in the manual, but it sometimes annoys me. So, i always charge my batteries in the room i'm never in... :)
Overall, I'm very happy with the charger..

What about LaCrosse BC-900 ? I read somewhere that they are similar, and is cheaper.

I've got the LaCrosse and am very happy with it. It actually brought back some batteries that I thought were dead.

The high-pitched sound of the charger is NOTHING compared to the high-pitched sound of my daughter when her battery is dead in her powershot!
Also, I charge Eneloops in my c9000. Don't know about the Lacrosse...

I'm kind an amature/prosumer but for AA I have had great sucess with duracell rechargables. I bought a 15min charger from costco with 6 2400mh AA and 2 2400mh AAA batteries and it came with both home and car power adapters for about $40.
Since then I have gone to Bestbuy and Circuit City and picked up 4 packs of the 2650mh AA for about $14 each. I use these batteries in my speedlights and in my XTI grip as a backup, and have never had any trouble.

I believe so. Since getting three additional 580EX IIs, I've purchased 8 additional Eneloops and use the LaCrosse as the main charger. I've only had the flashes about a month and have only charged the Eneloops about two times, but it seems to be working OK.
One thing I have found very interesting via the Lacrosse mAH meter, is that almos all NiNH batteries grossly over estimate their respective capacities. The Eneloops measure about 2000 mAH as advertised, but almost all of my NiMH are WAY overstated. Almost all which are listed at 2600 mAH are about 2000 mAH. The exception so far are the AAs which came with the Lacrosse charger.
