Beautiful Gary, love the sunset for the background...steve

Thanks Steve

The actual sun was to the right rear of the bird so really the bird is backlit but by getting low I believe i also got more light on the bird!!

The only problem is to get the BG the bird is backlit so maybe a bit under exposed.

Gary your experiments with bgs are really working well, keep up the good work, its awesome.

Can you tell me..Ive just bought a 1.4 XT for my 300mm f4.5 L lens. First test shots today show a definite softness compared to previous. It was a duller day, but I used similar settings except 200 ISO instead of previously 400, would that make a difference do you think?
Oh maybe this is the wrong place to ask, I will go ask in the equipment section.

Wendy Thanks

I have a Canon 300/4 and a Canon 1.4 TC which makes the Combo a 420/5.6

As with any lens combination it is very effected by Light and when you add TC you need to focus of a good contrast area to maintain you IQ. I'm very Happy with my Setup and am very comfortable shooting at ISO400 to keep Shutter speed up.

Thank You Norm

The problem was to get the BG I had to take a Backlit shot, the light is about quartering the bird.:)

Thanks for that, I did ask in the other section, but I use my 300 very often for birding so thought it ok to ask here.

Ok, so I will focus on good contrast areas and use the 400ISO and practise more ;)
Many thanks
