Well, the annual migration along the river here has begun, so I took a few photos this morning. Most were shot at long distance with 75-300mm lens and are cropped. So they are not sharply detailed as I would like. Can't seem to get the crispness that I am finding on some of these posts here! Lots of nice photos posted here. Anyway here you go, any pointers appreciated.

Nice shots, and they look sharp enough to do some more cropping on them. A 300mm lens is about at the limits though. If you get one of the non-reporting Kenko 1.5x teleconverters, it will make that 300 into a 450 and still retain autofocus.

These are pretty good, although Canonloader is right, a bit more reach would help.

Where in Kansas did you take these? I have been seeing them on Tuttle Lake since November 20.

Hey thanks for the replies guys. They are being found along the Arkansas river in downtown Wichita. We have a few that nest around here year round at some of the nearby lakes also. I will have to check out the teleconverters. Wish I had the money for the big lenses.

Here's the Kenko TC you want (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/389038-REG/Kenko_K15AFDGC_1_5x_DG_AF_Tele_Converter.html), unless your good at manual focusing moving birds. ;)

I have this one and the IQ is pretty good. Not tops, but generally good enough with some post processing on the RAW file. Cheap too. :)

Thanks canonloader, my birthday is coming up in a few days! Now all I have to do is convince the wife! She thinks I have way too many toys already.
