View Full Version : Color Business Cards

I'm reading up on all the posts about business cards and am wondering, when printing companies mention 4 colors, do they mean all shades of gray + four different colors or four shades of grays / colors?

Also, my cousin has some experience with professional printers and he suggested I have my design under CMYK color space, as most printers don't use RGB.

If I'm planning on using a service like VistaPrint or Gotprint, should I care about color space?

Thanks ahead of time!

AFAIK, CMYK is four color
- Cyan
- Magenta

Actually, Wikipedia explains it pretty well.

Correction: all printers use CMYK. Red, green, and blue are the primary colors of light, but we don't print light onto paper, so we have to go with the primary colors of pigment: Cyan, magenta, yellow, and black.

correction: CMYK printers use cmyk.. there are also cmyklclm cmykrgb etc etc.. and new top end cmyk hybrid printers can print well beyond the gamut of srgb and close to argb and beyond..

to answer the OP in simple terms.

"4 color in printers terms" means Full Color
