What is your advise?

I was looking at trying a few macro shots, and was wondering if it would pay me to purchase one of those macro lens kits you see on Ebay for about £10.00 first. I appreciate that these are not exactly the mutts nuts for doing macro, but I thought it would at least give me a better understanding of things before splashing out on more expensive gear. Has anybody tried these? and if so what were the results like? Any advise welcome.

Well they are a cheap way to start- assume you are talking about extension tube set ? If it's an add on dioptre set I wouldn't bother at that price.

I was going to say... extension tubes? Here comes the old saying " you get what you pay for". If ya serious about photography, purchasing the expensive macro lens or items you wish WONT hurt. When I first received my EF 100mm F/2.8 macro I wasnt sure if it was worth the price or if I would end up regretting it or not. But, I believe its one of the best purchases I've made yet.
