I own a Canon S3IS camera and have been happily downloading images to a Windows XP professional OS environment with the Ver 28.2 software from Canon.
I recently purchased another Canon camera , the SD1000. What I ideally want is the ability to connect either camera to the PC and have the CameraWindow appl open to acquire the images.
When I connected the SD1000 with the original setup, the OS recognizes it as an SD1000, I have the opportunity to assign the CameraWindow to it, but the CameraWindow appl never opens. When I connect the S3IS, all works normally.
I un-installed all the Canon appls, loaded the 30.2 version of the Canon software that came with the SD1000 package and after that, when either camera was attached, the CameraWindow appl would not open.
I re-installed the 28.2 s/w and I am am back to my original starting point. I can load images off the SD1000 with a MS appl but I would love to get both cameras aligned in the same tools.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Buying a card reader is an option that most people would recommend.

You might try, instead of installing the new software after u installing the old, visiting the Canon website and downloading the upgraded Zoom Browser from the S3 Support area. I personally use a card reader, however.

I agree with jon and gool - a card reader is by far the quickest, easiest and most efficient answer.
