Co-worker is trading me the camera for an old sofa. :)
Is this something I want to spend time learning how to use?
I tried searching for a manual, but no luck.

I owned one for a few years and it's a great camera and I don't think you'll need a manual becausit has allmost all the functions of your DRebel.

I have one and love it. Sadly I don't use it much with the digital but I really like the feel of it better than my DRebel. The big difference in operation between it and my DRebel is the eye-focus system - which is kind of cool but not great with glasses and the control wheel on the back (similar to the 10D design) which I really miss. Not really much new learning - you really can't go wrong if it is in good condition.
While not official, try this:

Excellent! Thank you. Printing started...
Just found out I'm getting the IIe's Kit lens too... 28-80mm?
Not bad for a couch I was going to toss anyway. :)

Not bad at all - check prices on Ebay - probably worth $150 bucks or so - maybe more with the lens.
I had the 28-80 kit lens and was not real happy with my pictures so I sold it and got the 28-105 based on a lot of recommendations on the web at the time. I was happy with the 28-105 on the Elan but now rarely use it on the DRebel since its kit lens is substantially wider and my 70-210 is longer and my 50mm is faster.
It was a few years ago and I was a complete novice - I really can't remember what was wrong with the 28-80 - maybe nothing and I just followed the advice on the web and upgraded. I think it was a little slower and not as sharp as the 28-105 but it covers a needed range for you since the DRebel kit lens won't work on the Elan.
I intend to use my Elan to play with b&w film photography one of these days. Have fun!!

It's a good cam. I have one and still use it. I leave it loaded with B&W film. The eye control actually works

excellent. Guess I came out ahead.
Have fun!!
I hope to. I'm going to take some photography classes this spring, and they all require a film camera. this should fit the bill.
thanks again.

I'm interested in the eye control. I have trouble with focusing on the eyes with my drebel. :(

Eye control just means that you select the focus point by looking at the point you want to select while looking through the viewfinder. You can also use the depth of field preview inthis manner. Cool technology and it does work but you can do the same thing with your DRebel by holding the AF point selector with your right thumb and turning the main dial while your eye is in the viewfinder. So unfortunately there is really no magic in it to help you get better focus.
You'll like the camera. Makes the DRebel feel kind of like a toy after you hold it!!
