Finally received a WORKING Lexar 1g CF card from B&H (Previous struggle with the bad one was documented earlier)

AFter formatting I noticed that my 10D showed 386 images left. BUT my microdrive has always shown 404!!

Any good clues on why? I figured they would BOTH be 404.

The MicroDrive is a full 1 GB (2^30) bytes, or 1,073,741,824 bytes, while the CF is 1,000,000,000 bytes. Marketroids!

It depends on the FAT you are using cos Fat 32 tends to take up more space then Fat 16 so it might be the FAT type. That means if you format the 1G CF with FAT 16 then you will get more images then if u had formatted using Fat 32

Mosr CF card manufacturers use the old terminology rip-off that computer hard disk manufacturers have been using for years; they define 1 Gigabyte as 1,000,000,000 bytes whereas, when IBM introduced the 1 GB Microdrive, it really was (and is) 1.0 Gigabytes, which is 1024 x 1024 x 1024 bytes.
