Hi
I am in need of some help. I need to find some stunning sailing images for a website project.
Can any of you point me in the direction of someone or a gallery / website that can help.
Big waves and dramatic action are what we are after. I have seen a few on Gettyimages and BIG Stock but nothing that really hits the mark.
I have also Googled with many phrases but no joy.
Many Thanks
Nigel

How big should the boats be?

Ideally we are looking for a mid-sized sailing boat... around 40-60 ft but are flexible if the right images comes along. Its more the drama and impact of the image.

Nigel:
Have you tried iStockphoto? They have pretty good image prices. I am a contributor and have a couple sailing related images in my portfolio (shown below)(not really big waves or action), but I also maintain a "lightbox" of some other boating images that may be of interest to you as some are sailboats. HERE IS LIGHTBOX of BoATS (http://www.istockphoto.com/file_search.php?action=file&lightboxID=605846) You can also try a search for "sailing" and "waves" and you might turn up something.

Hi Yeoer. Check out some of my pictures, taken at a regatta in Oslo Norway. Maybe not to much action here, due to lack of wind, but anyway...

Yeoer - Be sure you get permission from whomever for the images you are going to use.

look at www.sailinganarchy.com for some stunning images, usually provided by either the photographer or the boat's owner. runs the gamut from opti dinghies up to the maxi mono and tris. some great comedy shots of the america's cup debacle are there too.
or you can always just go to sharon green's ultimate sailing site. in a word, wow.

One of, if not THE, largest agency in this field in the world...pretty sure you'll be able to find what you want there.

Again, let me remind the OP that normally, images "taken" from another source (as in "taken from
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...Den%26sa %3DN") - a quote from one of the posts above, do not belong to you, and should not be used without the expressed, written approval of the copyright owner of the image in question.
Here's what is said about the a couple of the image sources listed in this thread:
Google images:
"Image may be scaled down and subject to copyright"
iStock Images:
Select the Extended License Options from the menu at the top of the File Download page, above the standard Content License Agreement. Select the options you need from the menu to amend the standard Content License Agreement. Then review the provisions, check “I Agree” and download the file.
Sailinganarchy:
Any redistribution, retransmission, or publication of any material is strictly prohibited without the express written consent of the copyright owner. You further agree not to modify or delete any proprietary notices from materials downloaded from the Service.
You may find that the owner of whichever image(s) you are seeking to use will allow you free and limited rights to their shots(s), however somebody went through a lot of trouble (and expense in terms of time, equipment, etc) to capture many of these images. As someone who markets images for a living (and who has had his images "taken" by people for their personal AND commercial use) not only is this wrong, but it really ticks me off and quite literally takes food off the table of my family.
I know people who cover yachting, and frequently they'll even rent a helicopter to get their images, for the love of Pete! Talk about an expense!
Once you have identified shots you like, contact the copyright owner and inquire about usage rights. If this "project" you are working on is for school, you will expand what you are learning to include a valuable lesson in digital rights management and copyrights, and if it's for business Web site, then you are obligated to respect the property of others.
And, no, I'm not just being a buzz kill - there is a right way and a wrong way to do things - do this the right way.

As someone who posted the link to iStock images (including my own), I will echo what Dennis said about proper permissions and licences. I provided the link in the hopes that the OP could legitimately purchase and download stock images for his project, not simply right click and use my image examples in his project.
iStock, FYI, has a very good procedure in place to track down and come down hard on those who choose to use iStock images inappropriately, or who simply "right click" the preview image (iStock watermark and all) and use this in their work. A most notable example of this is a recent Nintendo game cover that uses 2 iStock images on it, BOTH clearly showing the watermark!
As Dennis says, do it right and keep angry photographers and their lawyers away from your door!
Cheers!
Chris

Sorry i didn't think my opening question implied i intended to use images without paying for the right... don't know where you got that from and sorry you felt the need to remind me of someting i didn't intend to do.
Thank you for your replies, the project is well underway now and we have arranged a photoshot to get the images we require.
