I am trying to change the background colour on a photo.
i have encircled the subject that i want to keep with the polygonal tool,
i tried using the fill tool[forground &background] the only thing that changed was encircled subject.
Obviously i'm flying by the seat of my pants
Any help would be appreciated

After you've got your "keep" selected, try this:

- Menu "Select">Feather. In the next dialog box, type in 2 and hit OK.
- Menu "Select">Inverse. This will invert your selection to include everything else except what you originally selected.
- If it was me, I'd next use the menu "Image">Adjustments>Hue/Saturation. Use the top slider (the Hue slider) to adjust the color of what should now be your background.

Hope that helps. If you have any more problems or questions, please feel free to e-mail me .....

Select / Color Range is also very handy to select the sky, especially if there aren't too many other things in your image that have the same color as the sky.
