20D + 400mm + 1.4 TC, 100% Crop
Processed in EVU, all sharpening in PS CS by FM Intellisharpen II

And manual focus to boot!
Manual focus on the 10D was tough on the 100-400 L even without the 1.4 TC. All my attempts were pretty poor. The 400mm Prime is crisper, and the mirror on the 20D definitely seems better.

Now this is a female Red-Winged Blackbird - I've got a shot of the back to prove it - but there are *no* males around at all. Might this be a juvie who hasn't flown the coop yet? There have been some darker birds around that could have been juvie males. Weird (to me).

Strange.

Wonderful detail right down to the droplets of dew on the grass, very nice.

I find the new focus screen a notable improvement, I was never able to get successful manual focus shots on my 10D - my hit rate's about 75% on the 20D, 100% on macros... I can live with that :D

Again, great pic

WOW! That pulls the Bird right in. I know you're loving that 400. :D
Did you say you have a "Mirror" lens too? Or did I step into the middle of a conversation about 20D mirror slap, or something?

nice photo Scottes.

I actually thought that females, even though they look a lot different than males (with streaks) still have *some* red on the wings. I guess not.

Not like I've ever seen one in real life anyway :D

Bruce,

No, not a mirror lens. But the mirror in the 20D seems to reflect more light, or is just better at showing the image.

Chris,

She does have red on the back. Same little lady without the 1.4:
