Has anyone used it..... I just tried to use mine and the damn thing wants to fall forward and backward even when locked....that is the problem it looks like it can't actually be locked.... if you turn it to far one way or the other it can fall through....am I the only one or is anyone else seeing this???? maybe mine is broke?....

Mine works great, but I can't visualize what yours is doing. Got Picts?

I will try to explain because I am lazy.... :)

Ok.....
1. I push the lever to unlock and take off the gel holder....
2. I insert the umbrella adaptor...
3. I twist it to line up the groves...
4. I lock it back....

Now if I keep twisting the adaptor clockwise or counter....the adaptor moves out of the groves and it can be pulled or pushed through the hole in the middle of the ABR.....

I am worried that if I move the light around the umbrella will spin and the adaptor and umbrella will fall out and damage the light..... it moves around very easily....

thoughts..??

I just got the ABR800 last week and have had the same problem. I think is a design problem. They should provide another kind of adaptor that does not allow the umbrella to spin.
I also find very dificult to attach the moon unit to the ABR800. I though it was me but I see you have the same problem. I hope AlienBees give try to get the solution for this issue.

I sent an email to alienbees regarding to this issue. Here is the answer.

The Umbrella Adaptor fits inside the center chamber of the ringflash in place of the front cover / diffuser and locks into place the same way that this diffuser does.

I attached a little picture and then drew over to show the two pieces.

For me, it works best to insert the adaptor from behind. With the reflector lock in the "unlock" position, you can slide the large open face of the adaptor inside the center chamber from behind. Looking at the front of the unit, there are three little raised ledges inside the center chamber of the ringflash and three little raised ledges on the outside edge of the umbrella adaptor. The three ledges on the adaptor slide perfectly in between the three gaps left by the ledges inside the center chamber. You'll push the adaptor slightly forward and twist until the adaptor ledges are positioned just in front of the center chamber ledges.

You'll then place the reflector lock back in the "lock" position. When locked, the adaptor can't slide in (forwards) or out (backwards). It can still rotate slightly left and right - but not much more than about 45-degrees in either direction.

Hope this helps, let me know if you need anything else.
Thanks
