Hehe sorry for the absurd topic, greetings everyone. I just wanted to say hello and let you guys know this is the most incredible photography community I've ever found on the net, and I'm looking forward to being a part of it.
I've been reading these forums for a couple weeks and finally decided to take the plunge and buy a DRebel as an upgrade to my Nikon CP 5700. It just got here this morning and I'm here charging the battery at work, like a kid with a new toy. Anyhow, just wanted to express the beginning of my new joy, and I hope to contribute here as much as possible!

Congrats and welcome ;-)

Welcome!!! At least you have taken the plunge. I, on the other hand, have yet to narrow it down between the DRebel, 10D, or 20D. In the mean time, I just kinda lurk in the forum

I took a very similar upgrade path recently, but I went from the Coolpix 5700 to the 20D because speed was my main concern.
Just remember the dRebel is less of a point and shoot compared to the Coolpix 5700. Especially with the kit lens. For the 1st day I had my 20D with the 18-55 lens, I couldn't get any pictures that were nearly as sharp as the Coolpix 5700 in fully automatic mode. The colors were clearly better with the 20D, but everything looked too soft and a bit overexposed in many cases. A little playing around and adding on the Canon 50mm F/1.8 II that everyone raves about on this forum (under $100) and then the 20D really started to show me what it could do.
Anyway, congrats on your new camera, and enjoy.

Haha believe me, I so wanted to call in sick today, but I missed yesterday cause I though the package would be here and it was delayed (Florida) so I came in today. I keep looking over at the charger trying to persuade it to hurry up so I can go out in the field out back and shoot some stuff!

congratulations and welcome.
Depending on your needs, the rebel could make a fantastic camera. Do not be intimidated by "uglier" pictures at the beginning, after you get a hold of post processing you will be amazed at the quality.
So do you have a savings account? I suggest you stock up on macaronni and cheese because this forum has powers... and there's a friggin camera store on my way to work every day
Enjoy your stay. Can't wait to see some pics !

Welcome. The only thing that makes us happier than new members introducing themselves is when those same new members become active participants in the forum.

Pretty soon you'll be skipping meals to save money for lenses. That's why there are very few really fat photographers.......besides me, of course.

ok so I snapped a couple pics, its been hard cause of this Miami weather but I snuck in a couple, I LOVE this camera compared to my 5700. Warning: these pics are in there from-the-camera form, so they are 1MB+ each, which is why I left them on my server and didnt upload them here.

These are just pics I took in my backyard to test the autofocus and coloring and I am simply amazed! Now I need a good WA - tele zoom to get started and I'll be good to go :)

hehe sure how do I go about doing that? :)
And thank you for the compliments, yeah its really hard to get decent pics in my backyard since all the power and phone lines run around the back of the houses and not the front. But I was in a quick hurry to go outside and snap away, hehe.
