Hi all,
I am pretty new to starting up my own Photography business. I work full time but decided to start doing portraiture, weddings, etc in my spare time. Done a few jobs so far and a couple in for 2008.
My site is
www.timkniftonphotography.com (http://www.timkniftonphotography.com)
Would be grateful for comments on design, layout, etc as most comments I have had back are from friends, camera club buddies, etc.
Regards,
Tim

One thing that jumped right out at me is that there's no location listed for you. Or at least I couldn't find one. You say I can meet you to chat about a portrait session though.... I'll be at Starbuck's here in Folsom CA at 10:00 - please stop by :)
The site's very different from many photog sites, and does look a bit dated in terms of its style. But frankly I enjoyed clicking around it, seeing how it worked and all. Dunno what that means... maybe different = good.

Going for the minimalist look? It sure saves on bandwidth if you need it.
I found myself desperately clicking around for pictures... but where are they? Oh, you mention they are in the photo gallery? Ok... how do I get there... a link right here would be nice... Oh there it is, up top.
So my suggestion is to link to example photos while in the appropriate section. I'd like to either find example photos while browsing about restoration for example, or have a clickable link to get me there faster. While in the gallery, I'd like to see restoration examples without thumbing through other services provided... maybe I am already married and don't care about great wedding photos... I just want that photo of great great grandpa restored.

honestly? its way too busy. i mean seriously, if i was looking for a wedding photographer, i would take one look at your site and immediately click away.
brides looking for a wedding photographer want to see, right away, why they want to hire you.
all i saw was a huge mixture of all different types of photography, nothing that jumped out at me that said you are a wedding photographer. i realize you are only doing this on the side, but you ahve to understand that in wedding photography, brides usually look for someone who specializes in wedding photography, not someone who just does it on occasion.
and, just in general, your site is very overwhelming. i know you want to show everyone how much you can do, but just remember, less is more.

Sorry Tim I don't like it very much:cry:
The cake looks like it's tipping over, the links are splattered all over the top, the text addresses me as a potential thief not a potential customer, and nothing looks particularily symmetrical
Just an honest opinion
More: why put tear-sheets from Amateur Photographer ona site where you are trying to presnt yoursellf as professional?
Tried every link and - NO PICS!
It's really hard I know when you start designing your site - I have made the same mistakes myself ( and still do) but you have to ask yourseof how you would see the site as a potential customer
So: change the navigation, put up your best examples and show that you know what you're doing
At the moment you don't show it, only tell it:-)
Don't be discouraged, just keep at it:D
