Figured I'd get more of a critique in here compared to the other thread of what your business cards look like. Here are my first attempt(s):

233840

233841

Realistically, looking at ones others have created I seem to be lacking some skills in creating a nice business card. :( Any ideas/suggestions are going to be greatly appreciated!

A new design that I now have in mind as well, creating a border kind of theme for the card:

Wow, #2 is killing my eyes.

I like the font on your "Jayson prentice...." on #3. I would suggest though a few things....

1. Get your own domain
2. make your email jayson@domainname.com or something similar. Don't use a g-mail.
3. The online...phone...email designations aren't really necessary
4. don't use the 1 on the phone number. People are smart enough to figure out if it's long distance or not.
5. Don't use a border. Most printers can't promise that it will print evenly.
6. Think about some kind of logo or better yet, hire a designer.
7. Wait around for Hikin Mike to give you some more input. :)

My eyes are good and I find the colours horrible to view. I think seniors will find them too awful to look at. I also think you need to think in terms of what will appeal to seniors. My dad and my father-in-law prefer text as plain as possible - black on white.

Colours don't work. Simple is best.

Alright, given the few comments thus far I've came up with the simplest design yet that I actually think ain't too bad...

Much better. But I would probably put the business name in red. I'll maybe mess around with it tonight when I get home but I won't be able to post anything unless you turn your image editing permisson on.

Oh, the http:// are completely unnecessary. On mine, I don't even have the www either. It'll clean things up a bit. BTW, what font are you using for your business name? I really like it.

Editing permission granted, thanks for the offer! Good idea on dropping the http deal, I'll do that on my next round of adjustments. The white is growing on me, it's a nice clean look...

This afternoon I'll do some color adjustments and see how the red title looks, I kind of like the black as of now. As for the font, it is called Amienne; only place I find it is in Photoshop CS3.

Replace the red with black text. Your card will be useless to somebody with red-green colourblindness.

I still think you should get your own website and e-mail, but for now I'll run with this.

I do have my own website, it is the www.iowachaser.com; I'm a meteorology major and a storm chaser therefore the name (from Iowa). Beings this is my part-time gig I've just added it to my already owned and operated website. Would it be best if I did something like: photography.iowachaser.com?

And I can also do the email thing, photos@iowachaser.com or something of that sort. Suggestions welcome on how to do the website and email thing beings that seems to be an important feature.

Mike, I like the idea and feature you have. Mixes in the colors but is a lot more subtle than my attempts were, care if I mess around with the idea that you had?

I prefer mike's attempt. The orange bar highlights your business name, and draws more attention the card. The colors aren't quite as hard on the eyes, and (most importantly for me) there is a constant color theme that you were missing on your cards. No offense meant, but I felt the colors were a bit inconsistent.

Personally I don't like times new roman at all, so I'm not too keen on the font choices. I prefer arial, verdana, tahoma, or century gothic (possibly my favorite).

Edit: Can you do jayson@iowachaser.com?

Sounds like me. My website is "TheBackcountry.org" and it started as a collection of trail descriptions and photos from my "adventures". Then I got into photography and I picked "Images In The Backcountry" as my "company" even though I'm only part-time as best.

Since you already have a website, I'd at least change the e-mail to photos or something like that.

Go ahead and mess around. I'm a little under the weather right now anyway and I'm not at my "best". I still may play around througout the day. It gives me something to do...

Actually the other font was Century Old Style Standard.

Yes, I can do any email address that I please with my domain name.

My fonts for my last attempt was the Amienne and then Verdana for the remainder of the text. I was trying out several different color schemes, therefore the wide variety in the beginning.

I kind of like the Amienne font...once I found it.

I like the Amienne font too - definetly a good one for the "main" font.

My mistake mike, looks close enough to times new roman that I just assumed it was.

photos@iowachaser.com or jayson@iowachaser.com looks better than gmail, so I think either of those would be a good choice - depends on which one you like better.

And jayson, I do prefer your last attempt the most out of all of them. Definetly an improvement from the first. :)

Okay, I've been thinking (shocking, I know). I'm not keen on the "Seniors, Sports, etc". It looks like you do pretty much all of it so why not just delete that and use this...

Mike I really like your design from post #19. Your new one is nice too but I prefer the colors from your previous design.

Love the tornado Mike. ;)

I was up shooting another basketball game this evening, sorry I wasn't around to see the amazing improvements that you've done Mike! I could never have came up with some designs like that!!

I like the #25 post design the most, but the rest are all so good as well.

bad colors (basketball?), stroke on the logo sucks.

I used Illustrator. The stroke is much clearer in Illustrator than the web. ;)

the fact your website url requires a directory name to be typed in, instead of just the domain name is fairly ghetto.

I like the font for the word photography. The coloring, font, and logo for your name though invoke thoughts of the WNBA or Halloween. Why not just use the same font for your name as for the word photography on that dark background. Simple.

Jayson Prentice

My photography is a part-time business and the website that I've created wasn't originally intended for it, therefore the directory name behind it. If I receive a bunch of complaints about it then maybe I'll look into getting a new domain, etc... But, I have a hard time believing that people are going to look at the website and so 'oh its' not just a .com, jeez that's too much!'

I enjoyed the colors of the card, so much so that my new website design has actually implemented those colors and I've received nothing but positive comments on that change.

I really like Mike's design. I know there are those that don't but I think it's nice. The tornado is just too cute. (in a good way) And, I love the font (even though I don't have it ) And, the color scheme doesn't bother me one bit.
