Image made at an island rookery in a small lake on the New Jersey North Shore. There were between 18 and 25 herons along the edge of the island over the last two weekends.
C&C appreciated.

Thanks, Dan. I agree. I really like the play between the red berries and the red eye of the heron.

I am always a sucker for the inclusion of the bird's environment and this capture succeeds very well in that regard. The red berries really do fit in well with the eyes of the heron. Nicely done.

Outstanding image! Love the contrast with the berries for sure!
Well done, great detail of a bird that is hard to find let alone capture!
I have recently captured some images of this bird also just have not gone through the hundred or so pics from my last outing. First time for me shooting this bird and also captured the American Bittern for the first time also :)
Again great image!!

Thanks Ira. Like I said, there have been between 18 and 25 of these guys on the island. Most are "hidden" in the brush. This guys was one of maybe 3 or 4 that were pretty well exposed.

Thanks Coop. Yes, when I saw this opportunity I couldn't help thinking the red berries and red eyes would complement each other nicely. And we are definitely birds of a feather when it comes to capturing environment with the bird image.

Great shot here. I like the composition and the lighting. The natural looking environment is always a plus. The color of the berries contrasts well with the drab colors of the bird and the twisted mess of branches behind him.

Thanks Gary. Yes, I can't hep but feel that the environment makes the image here.

Easy to do, Mitch. The first time we caught the Herons was last Spring. While I was busy photographing Ruddy Ducks, my wife noticed one of the Herons. She whispered to me "There's a Heron". Then it was there's another and another and another until we got to eight. The first time this year we counted 25. Ironically ngannet was there earlier the same day and also counted exactly 25. This past weekend, we counted 18 herons trying to hide in the brush along the edge of the island.
A little over sharpened to my eyes but I like the composition and subject.
May be. I got a similar comment on another image posted on another site. I will be watching my sharpening more closely in the future.
Excellent shot in beautiful surroundings. Well done. :-)
Thanks Sindri. The environment kinda makes the image, doesn't it.
Great shot, background helps make the shot.
Thanks Paul. Appreciate the feedback. Glad you like the image.

Thank you for the feedback, Mike. It is always good to hear someone else's take on an image.

Hey Scott. How are ya? Glad you like the image. Yes, the workflow is coming along nicely. But I still have a lot to learn.
