I have a Powershot A70 and I would like to get some recommendation for an upgrapde of this camera. I mainly use it to take outside pictures ( ski, fishing, vineyards ) and I would like somthing with more than the 3X optical zoom. 4 Megpixel is ok for me since I will use it with no more than 8 X 10 printing. I want a good quality camera that I will be able to keep for many years. An other important point is that I want to make good quality video and longer than my actual 30 sec clip.
Thanks,
Séb

I have an A70 too. I don't know why you would want to upgrade. Buy an auxillary lens for extra reach on the long and short end.

I am not sure if I will upgrade but i watch for that.
I want to upgrade to get a camera with longer movie mode as I made video of technical sports where I use it for teaching purpose. Also I would really prefer a more than 3X zoom. But I am very happy with my A70 for their overall capability.
Could you give me some example of the lens you are refering, where can I buy them online.
Thanks

You may want to look at the S1 IS. 10X zoom and 640x480 video at 30 fps for as long as your card lasts. 3.2 MP. Others have found the features didn't meet their needs after a short time, but if you've been mostly happy with the A70, this might be the ticket. There are a couple of threads here (Doc Frankenstein had one and upgraded to the Digital Rebel after a couple of months) that talk about their opinions/findings.

You have to buy an auxillary lens adapter. You remove the little silver ring from your A70. This ring covers a bayonet style mount. Canon sells one for abou $20, but a better one is made by a third party. Then you can buy any auxillary telephoto or wide angle lens that screws into your adapter. They vary in cost. I am using an old KOWA .6x adapter.

I looked into buying the S1 IS but was told that it didn't have a macro feature on it, so decided against.
