I'm so glad I found this forum! I have had my camera for a year or so now and love it. But lately when I close the lens cover the lens is not retracting. I have to wait till the 10 minutes (or however long it is) is up and it retracts itself. Have any of you ever experienced this? I've done all the "troubleshooting" and can't seem to find a reason for this. Thanks in advance for your help!

Ok, I think that the S30 is similar to the S45 that I have. The sliding door activates a small switch when it is moved to power on and off the camera.

It sounds like the switch is not functioning. How do you get the camera to turn on after it self powers off?

If it is the switch then there is very little that you can do yourself unless you are very handy with electronics and mechanical things. It should be possible to replace the switch, assuming that you can get one.

A number of posts in this forum suggest that you can contact Canon USA and ask for an exploded view of the camera. This won't tell you how to take things apart but might show you what to take apart.

Other than that, your left with sending the camera in for repair.

My computer's been down or I would have replied sooner - My camera powers on the same as always - I open the door and the lense comes out. This is so frustrating that it's broken so quickly - I've had this camera for a while but I really just started using it in the last 6-9 months or so - now that I've gotten used to digital I can't go back :D - Thanks!
