I like #3 It captures his personality. He is sort of "walk softly, play hard" on stage....Sort of shy, but an amazing player!
I shot them last summer. It is hard to get a good shot of Derek. It seems like he is always looking down with his face in shadow. Your shot is not an easy one to get.
Great show to set back and enjoy when the work is done!!

well i'm glad to see you posting pictures here.
i agree in that 3 is your strongest. 1 is a great capture but that "snarl" kinda takes away from her beauty (but at the same time shows that she is really belting it out). 4 is nice, but i think could have benefited from a higher fstop, or maybe focus on mike instead of derek. i might crop a bit tighter to get space off the left. good emotion with yonrico in 5.
did you not shoot the 30d at all? every Exif i checked said 5d. also it looks like they had a lot of extra lights, but didn't seem to utilize them.
how long did you have to shoot?

No, I shot the 30D...second in the set is w/ it. Just coincidently (or, not) these are predominantly w/ the 5D

Whole show. I told you, they're good to me.

#5 is nice.
#1 is nice, but the expression is so-so.
Rest look a bit 'foggy': No real blacks in them.
Was there a lot of smoke?

Not so much that I recall. At work (where I have Mac and PC), they're much hazier on the Mac than the PC screen.
I use PC at home, which is where I processed; curious - what are you viewing them on?

I agree with Rene that there doesn't appear to be black in many and the smoke is a bit much and the expression in #1 is odd. Given the constraints it ain't a bad set.

Jmintz, hey i did not know you posted here! I know you from another forum and have talked with you in the past ;)
When you posted these in the other forum i did not comment since it it not photography forum, but i too guess you had poor lighting or you tried to lighten them up..... Like someone above said there is really no black. They almost look grainy to me other than that they look good.
I frequent your site to see what all you are shooting. I will PM you with something to look at.
I will PM you

The Mac I use at work definitely displays the pics hazier than the PC that sits next to it. So, my first guess is it's my processing, and that they showed up dimmer on my Dell at home.
However, I did talk w/ another photog at the same show, and she said that it was very smoky....now, I don't remember it being that smoky on stage, but they did have a few vases of incense - however, I doubt that would have created THAT much smoke, and this act is definitely not the type to break out the special effects.

You need this for all those dark, grainy, contrasty & heavily processed images, Rene?

Whatdoyou mean heavily processed? It's all straight from the CF card onto the web

Dissipated smoke is a pain in the neck... I don't know that it adds anything but problems to photographs... However, it does add considerable atmosphere to the show. I like # 3 from this set... #4 is interesting ,and #6 is almost there, except for the slight shadow on her cheek.
