I heard that they were on the verge of the release of a Pro model,.
This one is lower specs than there previous 12 MP A700 model.. so i guess this is there new "rebel" ?

FYI, it's right on Sony's website too;

Yup, aimed squarely at the sub-$1K market. Wonder how good ISO 3200 will be

Here's a preview on one those review sites:

Must be tough breaking into the DSLR market, even for a company like Sony. Just glanced at their lens selection for grins, and it looks like it has a ways to go. The 135mm f/1.8 prime caught my eye though.

Re: lenses it's not as bad as it looks.
The mount is the same as the Minolta Maxxum series, so all those lenses are useable as well.
Sony absorbed Minolta, but does not seem to have taken on continuing production of all the Minolta lenses, just seem to have hand picked some of them.

So Sony could, with short notice expand the line again one would assume,.

Also, Sigma at one point was making there full range in Minolta mount, *as recently as 3-4 years ago) as was Tamron I believe,. so again, if the market was there, SIGMA and likely Tamron are in a position to re introduce "Alpha" mount lenses with little to no effort.
