A couple of times in the last day or so i've been trying to help someone out, so i'll google a similar question to the one they asked. Even if the thread's only a couple of hours old quite often that thread will show up in google! That's just mad!
Examples:
- This thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=433875) - google search phrase "remove exif from tiff". 7 hours after the original post.
- This thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=433765) was in google two hours after it was posted - search term "T2330 T2080"
Google must spend a lot of time on POTN! I wonder how long this thread will take to turn up... i'll keep an eye out :)

I've actually seen them show up within 15 minutes. Not that I've tested it or anything.

I've noticed that as well Tim, quite scary in some ways...
If you had a web site and Google managed to index all your pages within hours you'd be pretty pleased I guess :-)
Just had a look and it's not there yet (only after a few mins though!)

Well it's picked up that phrase on the index page, it took 13 minutes. I guess it'll find the actual thread link soon :)

google ads are all over this site. That's why it doesn't take long.

Well you wouldn't see them here anyway because of your join date and post count.

yes, every once in a while I google my business name and my URL and then go delete the posts that are showing up. I probably need to do it again. That or stop linking my photos from my website.

Good tip, thanks :)

Yeah I know, but it helps a LOT with other websites. Browsing the web without ad blocking software is so frustrating I don't do it.

I think having 20K+ post with a link to my professional website from POTN, which has a high ranking in google, is one reason i'm #1 for most of my target phrases in google.

Are you saying you delete the posts you posted here on POTN ?
If yes please do not do that!. If you don't want a post to be associated with your name you should not post it on the internet in the first place!

The only thing that shows up is posts where I've linked images from my site. They show up ahead of my actual site in a google search. Maybe if I left them it would eventually come around to benefitting me like Tim's, but I've had as many as five different posts ahead of my actual site in google. I've only deleted the links to photos, which I remove from my server after a while anyway, so there's not much point leaving the dead links there.
Edited to add that I don't think I've ever conducted myself in such a way that I would be worried about anybody finding me here. I just want them to be able to find my real site first.
