I know that this has been beat todeath probably, but I am looking at the 80-200 f2.8L or the 70-200 F4L

I was set on the F4 untill last sat night at the blindside show, when I was shooting a lens that had the widest Fstop of 5.6 @ 200mm zoom. Man it was tough.

On one side I like that the f4 is new/grey/light/manual anytime, but it is F4 I dont want a lens that I am going to get mad at that I cant get the shot!!!

On the other I like that the 2.8 is cheaper/2.8/cheaper/2.8/etc

I really would like the 70-2002.8 IS but it is WAAAYY out of my range

Opinions? (preferabally from 80-200f2.5/70-200f4 users)

well I'm a f4 owner, as at my level I cant really justify the money for a f2.8 it fits most of my needs, and it does a great job. However if you know your gonna be shooting in the sort of tough lighting allot I can see paying the extra green.

I did manage to pulll off a couple indoor shots with it, but I had it on a tripod with a wired remote.

Since you need speed but can't afford the big grey lenses, have you looked at comparable Sigma lenses?
Many people use them and are happy with some of them. You can do a search above.

I have heard a lot of people say that the sigma 2.8 70-200 isn't that sharp wide open, and that the 80-200 2.8 is a better buy

Myonly concern is buying a used lens that they don't make parts for
