So, who got married when they were a photographer whether you were a hobbyist or pro or whatever? I know some people started after they were married, but for those already sucked in, what was your experience? Were you picky on who you got? Did you want to plan the whole thing? Were you allowed to even have a camera?
Just curious. I'm getting married in June and my fiancee said I'm not allowed to even touch a camera, although I probably will have a P&S stuffed in my pocket. Doesn't mean I'll pull it out, until after we're married. Then she'll be happy and no more stress. :D
People have been asking me about this so I though I'd ask ya'll as well. So, what was your experience?

A good mate of mine, who got me into all this taking pictures lark, had 5 togs at his wedding. A main hired shooter and 4 other friends. At some points it was like the premier of a new film with the amount of flashes going off. And like your fiancée, my mate's better half forbade him to touch his camera on their big day. Though he did have his kit with him. I remember him saying that as part of his deal with the hired wedding shooter that he'd get the RAWs as he'd do the PP himself. :p

...had 5 togs at his wedding. Piker! :D
A photog friend of mine had about 15 of us all shooting his wedding. We just gave him the film afterward.
Oh, & most of us can't remember the reception. ;)

I shot my own wedding. Seriously.
Pocket wizards for the remote and a tripod on the beach. We had fun shooting each other afterwards. Wife is pretty crafty with a camera in hand.

Cheapskate! :):) At least you can't blame anyone else for the bad results ;)

Back then I had a Mamiya C330S twinlens and I trained my sister-in-law in 15 mins to do the basics and any shot I was not in I took..I had a great time and my bride didn't mind a bit..(we've since divorced) (sigh)...

Recruited my first cousin, who is a staff shooter on a major newspaper in the area! Provided him with my medium format SLR (days before digital was close to affordable and high enough in quality!) and had him shoot with my gear. Provided just a little bit of a description of the kind of coverage we were looking for, when I originally recruited him, and then left him alone to do his thing on the day of the wedding. No regrets at all!

I was married in Turks & Caicos. The local wedding shooter (only one actually) wanted about $5000 USD.
I wasn't looking to spend $5000 on a beach wedding where two people were in attendance.

That does seem a bit steep

I would have done my own too. Good grief, 5 grand...
I don't have a problem not doing my own. My cousin is my Best Man and his wife is the photographer so we're good there anyhow. They both get parts int he wedding. Besides, I could do the shots I'd really want to do, which are the bridal shots, because I can't see her before the wedding anyhow.

My wedding was a couple years ago. Out side when leaves were turning colors and falling. We could not of picked a better day. We got married where my wife was from. Her mom hired a photog and he knew i was into photography so he had his wife shoot a second camera all in black and white. I thought the picutres came out awsome! Could not have done better myself!

I noticed it was mentioned that someone else shoot and then they took the images and edited themselves. I haven't thought of that, but I'll discuss it when they come down next week. What will happen with the images. The photographer she's working with, or the other way around this time actually, is really good. I want him to design a book. I wish I know what her work was like.
